Tudor BB58 GMT - experiences?
How do people like their Tudor black bay 58 GMTs?
I’m looking at my little collection from a functionality standpoint (same approach I take with guitars where something needs to be for a specific purpose and not just scratch the itch to have another color or something). So next on my list would be a GMT or a world timer (for travel or those times when family is in different time zones - I know, get an Apple Watch…). The Omega Wordtimer is nice otherwise but too big. And I’m not a fan of modern Rolex GMTs. All a bit too shiny and big and I can’t get behind the modern case shapes of the sports watches. Going for another neo-vintage might be an option. And then there is the Tudor GMT on the black rubber strap. Looks great, different enough to justify a purchase - and actually priced fairly. So how does it work out for people? How accurate is it in real life? Any known issues at this point? How well do those straps last? |

I have had the BB58GMT for a few months but bracelet version. Also have a 16710 and BLNR/CHNR to compare too. Really like the watch. Quick thoughts:
-doesnt feel as thin as specs, especially compared to 16710 as still slab sided vs. thin 16710 mid case. -like the boxed sapphire, seems slightly domed. gives good distortion at the edges. Also makes it feel like the watch is more bulbous when looking at if straight on compared to Rolex counterparts, if that makes sense -love the much cleaner text on the dial. Two lines top and bottom. Unlike other Tudor watches, top and bottom text is relatively centered within their respective halves of the dial - unlike the FXD, for example, where both top and bottom text is much closer to the top and bottom indices, leaving more empty space in the center of the dial - which I don't like. - the dial is not really black, its more grayish, and sparkles in the sunlight. its great, and gives is a bit of vintage feel combined with the gilt -im not a gilt fan, but the gilt here is "fine". I like the all gilt hands, reminds me of my CHNR. -I much prefer the overall shape of the 16710 with the crown guards and thinner lugs to the BB58GMT, its actually very different, if this matters - the BB58GMT overall feels more bland due to tiny teeth on the bezel grip. The scallop grip on the Rolex GMTs make such a visible impact and I sorely miss it here. It almost looks like there is no grip at all -Havent timed it closely, but haven't noticed an issues. I have the FXD MN, Pelagos 39, BB 54 and BB58GMT, they all keep very good time, well wishing COSC -like I said, have the bracelet version but my understanding is that you can only cut one of the rubber straps to shorten, I would be worried about not having the clasp centered on your wrist, depending your wrist. Overall love the watch. I know you didn't ask this, but the 16710 is still overall better if you making any kind of comparison. Would love to see some new color combos in future iterations not currently done by Tudor/Rolex, say blue and white bezel? (although best would be white dial Pepsi). |
