opinion on the PAM00250 Luminor Chrono Daylight
Hi all
I am attracted to the PAM 250 due to the extra functions and engraved bezel. I think it is pretty much the same watch as the PAM196 with maybe some cosmetic updates. The watch snob in me thinks its a lot to spend on a tarted up ETA movement but maybe I'm being to picky. FWIW I've been offered one as a full set for £3500 GBP. I was wondering what people's opinion of it is, and whether it is a fair price? |

I have the PAM250. I bought it off eBay for about 5k back in the early 2000s. It came with box and paperwork. I love the watch. It looks great, I love chronographs (even though I don't ever use the functions, that's why I've moved on to GMTs (better suits my needs)). It's the only Panerai I own but I'm looking forward to adding a GMT from Panerai soon.
The PAM250 has been discontinued. Panerai has been using in house movements for a while now. I believe they have an in house chronograph available if ETA movements aren't your thing and in house movements are important. It's a bit on the larger side for my wrist (at 44mm), but I don't mind the size and heft. I love that you can easily change the straps. I love all the different choices in straps. The crown guard is a huge plus cuz I find some of my Rolex's crowns dig into the back of my hand. The crown guard on the Luminor models prevents this. I'm looking at the Luminor BiTempo Power Reserve PAM01361, Luminor Dieci Giorni GMT PAM01482, or the Submersible GMT Navy SEALs PAM01323 next.

Thanks for your opinion I guess what with inflation over the years in-house movements are quite pricey. I do like a Chrono even if I rarely use the function. To me functions are a bit of window dressing rather than utility-the JLC Master Geographic I often wear has me in Honolulu for the past few years.

I like the 250 but never enough to buy one. I opted for the 236, which is basically the 250 on a bracelet. Sold that watch years ago and have recently picked up the 196. I like it and it does what Panerai does well, watches on straps. My 196 keeps good time and I have always looked at Panerai movements as they do what they are suppose to do but not much else. If the movement is an issue then rethink most of the Panerai releases as they are not going to be there for you if you have an expectation of better.

My preference in Panerai is toward the simple two handlers, and small seconds

That is a nice 196 I did not know that reference could come with grey subdials?
@brandrea I have a simple 2-hand Panerai too but fancied a different look in addition. |
