Two-Watch Collection: Keep the Speedy or Swap for a Datejust?

Currently, I have a 126610LV Mk2 and a Speedmaster 3861 Sapphire. I want to stick to a two-watch collection. The Sub is definitely staying.

Lately, I’ve been considering a Datejust 36 (fluted bezel, Jubilee, blue dial). Ideally, I’d keep all three, but that’s not an option right now. While I really like the Speedy, I can’t help but feel it’s not quite on the same level as a Rolex.

Would you keep the Speedy, or swap it for the Datejust? Any thoughts?

I’d personally swap…but it’d be a DJ41 for me.

I would keep the speedmaster. It’s a great two watch collection. I’d probably contact Aaron at Aaron bespoke and buy a ton of colorful and exotic straps and keep the speedmaster on leather - for varieties sake.

I sold my 3861 after 6 months. It's a nice Chrono and has a vastly superior bracelet to most Omegas within its price point. But it isn't half a boring watch.

I would keep the 3861. Buy some straps, have some fun.

Not a big fan of the Speedy but I would keep it over a DJ 36. DJ 41 I would swap.

I would for a BLNR on jubilee. You mentioned swapping them. How much are you expecting to get from the speedmaster? You are going to have to add a good amount of cash for the datejust.

Since you have the Omega, I would keep it and not trade it for any DJ.

I’m contemplating something similar. If the DJ41 in blue is offered, my white dial 3861 will likely be on the move.

The Speedy is a strap monster. Swap those around and it will look and feel like a new watch any time you get bored.

Can you add the OP 41 blue dial and keep the speedmaster?

Have both. I would wait until you can just add the DJ… that said, I buy my watches to keep and not the type to trade in / out of stuff…

I'd probably swap the Speedy for the DJ. I'm in the dress watch state of mind at this point of my life. Plus I like a date complication.

The Omega is worth more than what you can trade it in for.

But the Speedy is a level above a pedestrian DJ.

Don't let branding affect judgment.

Give this desire for a DJ some time. Since you can't afford it as a standalone purchase right now, by waiting you'll surely find a way to get it down the road if the desire sticks with you.

I'd make your 2 watch collection a 3 watch collection.

Exactly, although the Speedmaster is in a league of its own compared to a DJ.

Is the amount of return for speedy really worth it? Seems better to add when the timing is right.

Though decision, if you can keep the speedy and add the DJ that would be most ideal 3 watch collection. 3 of the most iconic pieces in history
