YG/RG vs Platinum

Im on the way to a platinum DD and Daytona. but I'm wondering is a platinum DD the top dog? Is it the one to have for the weekend dress? I'm thinking that yg or rg would be more dress or flashy so to speak. so what are your thoughts?

What do you mean by "top dog?" The best watch for your wrist is the one you most enjoy wearing.

If you mean most expensive, there are certainly pricier day dates out there but I agree with you the platinum is probably the most under the radar. IMO I think that defeats the purpose of the day date

Choose the one you want, not for how others perceive it. You'll be much happier in the long run. I prefer the DD because of the colored dial options. I'm not a fan of the Daytona colors. The feel of platinum is intoxicating.

Platinum DD and Daytona are top dogs for me. If you want flashy then go yg or rg over platinum.

Best looking DD, IMHO, is the yellow gold! It really pops! The Daytona is not my cup of tea. I’d rather wear another Omega Speedmaster 321.

I have a YG DD 40 White Dial and Romans.
To me the Plat DD 40 Ice Blue is the top dog.

What makes the platinum Rolex the top dog is not the metal, it is the ice blue dial. Otherwise it could just be WG...

Depends on what your goal is. A platinum watch is stealth wealth. IYKYK. If you want something flashy that everyone will notice go for the YG/RG.

If you are looking for acknowledgement from someone other than yourself then YG or RG is the way to go. Platinum looks great but it looks like SS, not really, but close enough and not worth the price difference. I have owned all of the Rolex models in Platinum and in YG and a few in RG. In the end, I prefer YG and then SS.

Specifically in the Day Date, I think YG, silver or white dial Roman’s is the classic choice.

Platinum with ice blue dial is beautiful as well, and now that you can buy it with the flutted bezel, it pops even more

YG/RG vs Platinum

Yes platinum is top dog. I have a rg and plat dd and the platinum is much more in all ways. I have some yellow gold Rolexes and I love gold Rolexes but the platinum is definitely top dog. Don’t settle for white gold it’s not the same.

YG/RG vs Platinum

I guess last time I went to a formal event I did choose the rg dd.. since you asked.. but I’d still much rather have the platinum than the rg.. but a rg dd can still be top dog at most (probably all) places you go- it was this night and I got a couple nice comments..

I would go with the platinum Daytona but for something flashy YG DD will do a good job.

I have a YG 228238 White Romans, but the ice blue dial platinum is the top dog. It’s a IYKYK.

Buy what you like and will enjoy. Any DD is top dog in my book, beautiful, stunning,
now here is where it gets tricky, the dial and the extras diamonds on the dial or bezel and color of the PM you choose. The last thing is your skin tone, some colors of PM will look better on you than others. Again it’s a DD there is no bad choice.

Congrats on which ever you choose!

Cheers,

Platinum is more expensive than gold so that might be a confirmation of status??? Getting past that, the next would be what color looks best on your skin tone.

I have the watches you’re comparing….YG DD, PT DD, PT Daytona. The YG is definitely the flashiest and gets noticed more, the ice-blue dial, brightness of the platinum, and the weight is what draws me to the PT. The ice-blue is my favorite and I also like that it’s exclusive to PT

YG or RG to impress the general public. Platinum to impress Rolex collectors. WG to impress yourself.

When I want to wear a gold watch it’s a colored gold. I prefer yellow gold. I do own a white gold watch but I prefer my SS over it. Yellow gold speaks to me. That’s my choice.

Pt > Au > Steel for me as a metal. However the limited clasp adjustability of the platinum models has always dragged them down my list. Case in point, I much prefer wearing YG YM2 or DSSD than Pt DD2 or Daytona.

I prefer the look of YG for the DD.
If going platinum, Daytona is the one.

There is nothing like a platinum day date. Outstrips the Daytona in my mind. Nothing in the watch world beats the President bracelet. The dial is also sublime and it dresses up down so easily.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think skin tone matters for gold colors. The same way olive green clothes can look great on some people and make others look pale and sick. The same model in a different color gold metal can look dressy, garish, or hideous, depending on the skin tone. platinum seems to look great on anyone.
