Electric Shavers

I am 63 and always have used a 5 blade disposable razor. Considering making the move to an electric shaver. I hate shaving. Might even go with a closely trimmed beard.

Concerned about the ability to get a close shave. Any suggestions? Brand, type, price, results? Thx.

I've used a Braun 7, 8 or 9 for the past 15 years or so. Not much difference between them as far as I'm concerned as I have and use all 3.

The trick to getting a decent shave is to use them in a circular motion and it's pretty close.

I don't think anything is as good as a blade to be honest but these are pretty good. I just got tired of paying a fortune for blades.

I just buy them without the cleaning solution setup which seems like a waste of money. They are wet and dry shavers and you just need to rinse them off.

Can’t help you, I’m a razor guy. I find shaving in the shower works best, less hassle and whiskers all over the sink etc

Been using a Braun 7 for years. The heads are replaceable, they keep a long charge, and also charge quickly.

I shave in the shower. When I travel I have a Braun [emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]]]]. Works good. It’s not as close as a blade.

Yeah the charge is pretty great actually. I've taken them on 2 week vacations and shave every day and never needed to bring the charger.

I think you could probably get a month out of a charge, or close.

Totally agree, thing is amazing. I’d start with that, and see if the closeness of the shave is acceptable.

Philips Norelco 9000 series user here for last 10 years. Used various other Norelco razors for 20 years before that.

Replace the blade unit once/year using OEM part directly from Philips website, as Amazon listings are often fake, don’t cut as close and don’t last as long.

Also use preshave lotion or liquid to get closer shave.

I was a Norelco user for maybe the last two decades. I recently switched to Braun and I think it does a much much better job. Closer shave and gets to all the tight spaces like just under your nose.

I shave dry as it seems the heads last much longer.

+1, since the first SensoTouch 3D heads. In addition to the shaving head that adapts to the face, I have always really liked the cleaning unit. It was a fun

I used Braun for about 15 years until 6-7 years ago when I felt the quality/longevity of the screens and cutter blocks went downhill.

I then went with the Panasonic Arc and perceive that I get a better shave from this but it is very slight. I do find the replacement parts a bit less expensive and have never had any quality concerns.

One thing is definitely better for me with the Panasonic is the much lower frequency of ingrown hairs.

For the closest shave use shave gel while in the shower. Someone here advised this a couple years ago and it has resulted in a razor close shave.

I use Andis foil shaver for my head and it cuts closer than a wet shave using a straight razor. Not quite the same as shaving your face but I imagine it would still work pretty well for a face.

Philips Norelco 5000 series for me. Mid range but find it does everything I need well.

Been using the Braun 7 series for a while and really like it. I use Lectric Shave before shaving and it seems to help get a closer shave. I used a Panasonic before that and it worked well too. Both close shaves. As another said, not as close as a blade. But still a great shave and simple and easy, both for home and travel. I will pull out the Gillette blade shaver for a wedding, plus I feel it’s good to change it up once in a while.

Nothing beats a straight razor. When I have the time I stick with the blade.

This is a great shaver. This time of year I use a OneBlade with the #1 attachment for a close beard that keeps the icey winds from biting too hard.

I’ve tried them and just never meshed with any. I’ll echo above; get a shower mirror and shave in the shower. So easy and no mess. I got one on Amazon that has a hook for the razor and a little ledge for whatever else you want to put. No fogging and is way easier and less maintenance than an electric.

Yeah, I shave with a double-edged razor and traditional shave soap most of the time, but every once in a while I like to mix things up and use my electric razor. And its the one from Andis, which I have to say makes by far the best-quality electric razors, trimmers, and hair clippers that you can buy

This is what I use. I have a very tough beard, so if I need to, I go over afterward with a single blade injector razor.

In my opinion there is a difference in regards to the latest Braun 9 head foils. The older being the 92s version which I think actually comes on the lesser expensive Braun 9 series and the 92m which comes on the 9 Pro version shaver I find gives me a closer shave. Either version of the foil can be used on any of the series 9 shavers by the way.

The foils are identical - what's different is the latest Series 9 does some ultrasonic action that may increase the head's effectiveness

I'm still with a 7 year old Braun 7 for electric but may move to a 9 - I use it so seldom.

They feel slightly different to me. I don't think the only difference is that one has a S and one has a M.

The Braun 7 has a smaller head which I liked for cutting around facial hair but now I actually use the 8 more than any of them.

The Panasonic Arc and the Braun 9 seemed kind of big and clunky to me, but they work fine.
