However, if you're requesting a major repair, they can remove the dial and replace it with the original. |

In this case, you can try to ask them to cancel the deal. If he is a nice guy, it may worth a try.

Perhaps you have a chance at redemption since they are brick and mortar. Here’s the photo of my 90’s factory zenith daytona dial setting I shared with you in the vintage section.

Go in and report that they sold you a fake dialed watch – and warn them that it is best the best for them, if they give you your money back for that watch. |

Indeed I did. The owner actually called me later last night and was very cordial. He told me to bring it to the store Monday so I can show him my concerns. He did say things could get overlooked and he understood I wanted to make sure I was getting an authentic piece.

If anyone is interested in what happened I will update you all:
I took the watch to RSC NY HQ to get a quote on an overhaul service as suggested in her. The gentleman who helped me was very helpful and said it would take about 2 days to get a quote and I would have to leave the watch with them. I needed an answer ASAP so I declined for them to take it in, but they put it on a timer and did an exterior inspection of the watch, as well as (I am assuming) a movement inspection with caseback off. Before I took the watch back, I asked the gentleman very politely if he could ask the tech to inspect the dial to see if it was authentic, particularly the diamond housings. He said the tech would have mentioned it before putting it on the timer, so they believe all parts are authentic. I was not convinced. I made my way back to the dealer on 47th to show him my concerns. He did not see any difference and still claimed the dial to be authentic. He brought in a few third party jewelers to inspect it under the loupe and they too said it was authentic and did not see any issues with the prongs on the diamond marker housings. I was STILL not convinced, so my dealer took the watch to an authenticator, who is supposedly the ultimate authority in authentication, alongside John Buckley (who no longer is on 47th). He, like everyone else, looked at the watch and said it was authentic. My stubborn self is still not convinced, so he quickly takes the dial off the movement... checks the BACK of the dial, and IMMEDIATELY says I am right and the dial is not authentic. He said this was a very, very, very well made fake, and most likely made in Korea, as are many well-done fake dials. This dial fooled so many veterans by seeing it without checking the backplate, and I am amazed that a nobody like me was able to spot it. I put no blame on the dealer and I think he like everyone else really thought the dial to be authentic. The dealer was a gentleman and quickly refunded me the full amount. Moral of story; GO WITH YOUR GUT INSTINCT! P.S. I asked WatchChest.com a few days ago to source the same reference, and they came through. I should expect it Tuesday. I paid a more than the one on 47th, but I don't see any flaws from their microshots they sent me, and the condition looks immaculate.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad everything worked out in the end, and you also found an authentic one that's coming soon. That really must have been an exceptionally well made dial to fool multiple experts! Definitely a great example to stick with your gut feeling.
