If you bought it to admire I'd put it in an anti reflective glass case on a pedestal and fit the room with some of those hitech alarm systems you see in movies. Or wear it. Or sell it.

Well that's just a layer of packaging tape to protect the actual stickers. Anyways If I do decide to wear it I ll remove all at one go! If...

I think now I've heard it all. Packaging tape to protect the stickers which are there to protect the watch? Please, just invest in the stock market or somewhere else, sell the watch to someone who truly wants a watch for what it is meant for, can wear it, and who enjoy it. This is part of the reason demand is outpacing supply because some people buy watches and don't even wear them. Sorry for the rant, but I just don't get it.

I never really understood having a stickered watch in the safe and not wearing it. That being said, you will lose some value. Do you intend to sell it? If not, who cares. If you do, sell it now, and buy a used watch in a nice condition, save yourself some money.

This post isn’t about the joy and pride of owning a nice watch. It’s about everything wrong with with a segment of the contemporary watch buying public.

Rolex are collectibles like it or not. Some people like to buy them like baseball cards. Just because most of us prefer to open our toys and play with them doesn’t mean the guy who buys a 10 year old NOS Rolex is hurting your ability to get a Rolex of which there are millions and millions out there to choose from.

We don’t shun car collectors with 20 cars who only drive some of them.

Please
And i do appreciate the responses

Part of the watch addiction is irrational anyway

Based on some of these posts I'd just give the watch to my wife and she would wear it and I can be logical.
The Daytona wears small and frankly I need a date and I'm not timing a boiled egg to perfection either.
.

Stop putting logic where there is none.

Not to sound snobbish but please.
The stickers and the anguish please me in some sort of demented way and you are my enablers.

I just need you to be there.responding in various ways that make me chuckle

The main problem is a LOT of Daytona's were bought as investments. So there are many pristine examples and the market is very competitive. The aftermarket prices have dropped 15-20% in the last year or so. If you like the watch and plan on keeping it, I'd just wear it (or give it to your wife).

These NOS watches also trade many hands and to avoid handling marks a transparent cling wrap is applied. You will not understand because collectors are a different breed

Anyways most people who have NOS and really want to wear can easily buy the same model which is used. Like its so easy to buy a used Sd4k but how many can you find NOS ? Its a fun hobby no real need for 'rants' lol

I understand the hobby very well. I am a collector. Just look at my avatar, and I have more than just pictured. But I also wear them, every single one of them. I can't imagine someone having as many watches as I do, all wrapped up in plastic never to be worn. It just makes no sense. If you love them that much, wear them. The only reason I can imagine that someone doesn't want to wear one is for resale value. If that is the purpose, invest in something else where your return on investment will be MUCH higher than that of a SD4K.

I say if you really want to keep it in NOS condition then buy another one used and keep this one in the safe.

However, this model was made in mass quantities, so having one in NOS will not be that big of a deal. Will it be worth more? Yeah sure, more so than a used one but I don' t think enough to make it worthwhile to keep in the safe. I would buy a NOS to wear and pay the premium to be the first person to wear it but that's just me.

If we were talking about a very limited piece like the LM Daytona then yeah, maybe it would be worth keeping as a NOS.

Kind of foolish. If it's sitting in your safe and you aren't enjoying it, you would have done much better investing that money in an ETF. Wear the damn thing. That's the point

+1. I just bought a NOS Explorer 14270 as I wanted to be the first one to truly wear it. Stickers are now long gone and the watch has been broken in.

Absolutely no reason to invest in watches. Money is made on the initial flip, that’s about it. Others like me just enjoy watches for what they are, regardless of $€£¥

Unless you purchased from the AD as the first buyer, you do not have a NOS watch. Anyone could apply stickers on the watch and call it NOS right...

Only an AD can have a NOS watch.

When sold it is second hand worn or not.

Actually I do! Cars are for driving, watches for wearing, whiskey for drinking, cigars for smoking. To each their own, and people can do as they please with their little possessions, but when you go on a forum and ask for advice, expect criticism.

Want an investment, sell the watch and put the money in an index fund. Wear it or sell it, don’t treat it like it’s going to earn you money year over year.

Money was cheap when the Rolex fad took off ( part of my decision to buy when I did)

The equation has changed with 5% return easily achieved

My grandparents had a couch that they loved. They had it reupholstered in a floral pattern over a white background and then covered it in plastic and placed it prominently in their living room. When family visited they instructed us not to sit on it. That was more than fifty years ago and I still don’t get it.

He didn’t ask for advice. Or opinions on his life choices. Or what to do with the watch.

He simply asked for opinions on the impact on value of removing the factory stickers from an unworn example of on of Rolex’s historically most sought after watch.

Notwithstanding any of that, if someone asks for advice, criticism has no place as a response.

Opinions, yes. But not criticism.

Had he asked - what’s your opinion of my keeping the watch untouched in a safe, then that’s an open invitation for all sorts of criticism.

But that’s not what he did.

So no, you should not expect criticism when asking for advice (or asking for forum members’ opinion on value as the OP did here).
