Welcome to TRF, if this is your first Rolex the submariner is a great choice , classic looks and you can wear it with anything even a suit. The ND is the original and I like the look of the full clean dial. The date version is also great because of the color options.

Visit your local AD and look a few different options and find the one that works for you best.

I had a 16710 Pepsi M serial and still have a 16750. If you only have one, I agree the inserts are a neat way to change it as well as bracelet but I never find myself making all the swaps. I think if someone invents a quick release for the bracelets I’d do it.
I’d rather use the differences as an excuse to buy more watches.

Best one... tough question thats impossible to answer for anyone else, for me it's a 1987.5 16760 Fat Lady that I bought used in 1993 - still have it, wore it yesterday:-)
