I had those same kind of seats except more towards the corner in the Old Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton back in the day. You could see the whole ice surface.

Ottawa is looking pretty good. A lot of teams are having a strange start this year. Hope they can keep it up.

Yup. I was lucky enough to be at the opposition end of the ice for 2 periods and could watch them do their magic.

It was a fairly quiet building and before a jumbotron, but some people would bring in a small TV and people would crowd around them to see replays.

It's hard to image now going to an event without replays. Then if you missed something it was gone until you went home and cranked up the VCR.

The one thing I remember most is looking down the mass of spectators and after one of the Gretzky magic 3 player passing goals you'd see a long line of people just shaking their heads in awe.

Lots of nights they were scoring 7 or more.

I think they'll get it together but a really slow start.

That’s amazing. As you know, where I am from, we only got the NHL franchise in 1992. So before that, was only TV watching my Nordiques, Oilers and Canucks. I also had a soft spot for the Habs. You my friend, witnessed some fantastic and historic games.

Yeah, everyone knew that they were witnessing something special. Zero to cup in 5 years. When they came into the NHL the only real player that they got to keep was Gretzky and they built a team in a couple of years. Messier, Kurri, Anderson, Lowe, Coffey, Moog, and others...all Hall of Famers now.

And there had never really been a player like Gretzky who "couldn't skate, couldn't break a pane of glass with his shot, and looks like he'd get destroyed out there if anybody hit him".

Everyone knew his stats in minor hockey but nobody thought it would translate to the NHL level.

Growing up Montreal was probably my favorite team but there was only Montreal or Toronto on HNIC every Saturday and no other games were televised so not too many choices.

By the time the Oilers showed up in the early 80s we got a lot more games and could pick them up from ITV in Edmonton with rabbit ears LOL. Like I said people would take those little Sony TVs to the games and watch with the rabbit ears on them. So funny.

Yup. Always a few of them. Semenko, Marty McSorely, Dave Hunter, etc....

Remember this was coming off the end of the Broad Street Bullies, Philadelphia Flyers era.

Even though the NY Islanders were dominant before the Oilers, the remnants of Philly style goon hockey was still prevalent.

If you’re like me, I miss those old tough teams which is why I watch “Slap Shot” every year before the season starts. The Hanson Brothers were the best Goon’s!! I dress up as them for Halloween almost every year and wear the jersey to Preds games that are close to Halloween. You would be amazed how many comments I get on the jersey.

I was a fan of Chicago back in the Bobby Hull era (and got to meet him when he was with Winnipeg Jets WHA) but really felt sorry for them in the Gretzky era where they had some good teams but could never really solve the Oilers during their dynasty.

But these were the dark days of the crazy owner Bill Wirtz who died in 2007. https://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-M...The-Breakaway/

It was great to see them back in 2010 and winning 3 cups during the Kane,Towes and Keith era.

Hopefully now they can capitalize on the new rebuild in the Connor Bedard era.

The Bruins have been in a slump this year, never finding their rhythm, struggling to win even half their games. So rather than blame the underperforming captains or upper management, they did what anyone (?) would do. They fired their well respected coach. That must have awakened some of the players and captains because they won the next two games, barely. Not 88 though. He continues to underperform like nothing happened.

I think Swayman is coming into the zone and the team played a bit better. I think that team needs a major shakeup, like my Ottawa Senators. They need to rattle the core a bit. Too complacent.

And now Jim Montgomery has just signed a five year contract with the St Louis Blues to be their head coach. Why wouldn't they snap him up? I really can't understand what the Bruins top office are thinking.

When a team is floundering the GM always fires the coach who he tries to blames for the performance of the crappy team the GM put together.

Soon the GM is fired as well by the owner.

And the carousel continues.

This was wild. I thought McKenzie getting a goal in his 700th game was gonna be the highlight.

Wifey got her first goalie jersey over the weekend. Great fit. Had it been windy, she might have sailed away.
