Personally, I think the Cubitus has some right ideas, and some wrong ones. I think it will gradually grow into its role as a 3rd Patek sport watch that is coveted by the public, but not in the bracelet form, but rather the strap form. There are a lot of positives with the 5822P that was released although it was not perfect....

It has been confirmed that Cubitus line isn't going away and has a long product line and new releases in the future. New Cubitus models will be announced this year.

So they need Cube jewelry too. Could be a very good new (elevated) income stream, smart to move into Van Cleef, etc upscale designer territory and take advantage of your customer base. Jewelry buyer gets rewards into rare handcrafts, makes business sense.

Maybe a 5226 in steel? or in rose gold? It's a popular model and I wouldn't be surprised if it is expanded. Steel would make sense because it would match with the overall field watch style of this model and also make it even more special

I think there is zero chance but I do hope Patek reduces the diameter of their PCC, chrono, AC, and Calatrava to 39mm and below. I prefer their smaller watches.

One of the reasons (and there were others too) I got a Lange 1815 Chronograph instead of the 5172g was the 39.5mm versus 41mm size difference. I too wish they’d shrink it down some for the non-sports watches,

Calatrava's been neglected. The 5196 was dialed in... especially in platinum, and it went away. 6119 didn't quite replace... I see PP reinforcing its bluechip dress watch with something less like the 6119 and more like 5196. my .02

Steve Jobs was famous for saying the customer does not know what it wants, Apple will set the market with its product releases and Apple will determine what the customer ultimately wants.

The same could be said in the watch market. The current hot product is the steel sports watch, particularly integrated bracelet. The dress watch market is dead. That could be changed by a market leader/innovator releasing a new standout product. Who will that market leader be that changes the current watch group think? The current leadership of Patek tells me it will not be Patek releasing anything that changes the market. I also doubt Rolex will do anything much different, they don't want to mess with their success. Something will shift as the China market is in a major decline.

Same here. I have been hoping for a 96 series for a few years since the 5196p was discontinued

Yes. Couldn’t agree more. Some classy, elegant watches that don’t look like clocks.

Oh well, I’ll keep buying vintage and neo-vintage!

Discontinuing the 5212 is a great idea, I’m all for it.

I expect another “you can’t have an Aquanaut, Nautilus, or Cubitus” Calatrava that is designed to appeal to younger clients but is overpriced in white gold with a movement that doesn’t fit the case.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did discontinue the 5212. They did the special edition burgundy recently, maybe that is a parting gift.

As I recall Patek like to limit the number of stainless steel watches, with the Cubitus launching I assume that will take up a relatively large quota.

I think Patek will scale down the size of the Calatravas. Maybe in the next few years since watch sizes are trending down. The 5130 WT was 39.5mm and now the 5230 WT is 38.5.

While there is probably a move away from larger sizes at the more extreme end of the scale in general, is it clear that watch sizes are generally trending down at Patek Philippe? Consider the Cubitus as an example, or from your own example the 5330G being 40mm.

Agree that currently at Patek the trend is bigger watches but I can see them moving back down in say 5-6 years. I may be wrong but I’m hoping they do scale the sizes down.

Agree, although I went with the 5170 instead of the 1815 Chrono, but this was also due to the 39.4 mm size for the 5170 compared to the 41 mm for the 5172. It does seem like watch sizes have been going up under Thierry Stern’s leadership, but maybe that’s just me.

On the wrist a 5172 is not a whole lot bigger than a 5170. Judging watches on specs alone makes little sense.
