Rolex OP ref 6103, 1952

Hello guys I came across this piece for sale.
Rolex OP 1952 ref 6103 , 1952 the seller tells me.
It seem to be on a aftermarket strap and no box or papers.

What do you think its worth,
Is the dial refurbished you think ?

This is the pics seller provides, it looks like a nice little piece.
Any thoughts ??

We would need better photos of the dial. And maybe you can tell us the asking price.

Welcome to the Forum!

Definitely need a closer picture. But I'll comment that the dial looks as bad as the quality of the picture you posted.

Maybe, but the photo is so tiny and suffers from such severe compression artifacts, who can say? The OP should make more of an effort to post a better photo. Using a cropping tool would be a good start.

Repainted dial at best - wouldn't bother tbh.

Its very rare to come across a dial from this era that wasn't redone. Its just the way it was back then.
If the repaint was done tastefully, it wouldn't bother me in the least because trying to procure an untouched dial will be near impossible.
If you do find an untouched dial for this watch, it will most likely cost you more than you pay for the watch itself.

Watches with original dials may be rare, but that's why we hunt for them. I would have zero interest in a vintage Rolex with a repainted dial.

Yes, I have been. And I've found a lot of watches with original dials, including hundreds that I've had in my collection.

Back to the OPs watch, the moiré effect on the bezel may be an artifact. But I've not seen an engine turned bezel like it.

I am guessing that we've seen the last of the OP.

It looks like the dial has been redone but it looks to be tastefully done. Whoever did do it, did a great job. I have seen much worse

What do you think is a fair price for a piece like this

Given the repainted dial and 34mm size, not more than $1500 USD, IMO. And that might be too high, TBH, because the case also looks rough. We'd really need more and better photos to judge. But it's not particularly desirable, IMO.

.
You also have to take into consideration the service history. The condition is not the best.
If this needs a service, then this is a parts watch. I think Dan is right that his initial estimate of $1.5k is too high.

I agree to all above, I wouldnt pay any more than about $1200 max. If you are looking for 34mm watches, look at 6694s, parts are plenty and they can be had for around the same price on a strap.

Wise move sir. 6426 with no date/6694 with a date window are perhaps the easiest, most plentiful and cheapest manual wind (plenty of original swiss and t swiss t footer dials available) 34mm at circa £1500 head/leather, £1900 on a 19mm bracelet circa.

Run any you see up the flagpole with the chaps here, they are well versed in dials, vagaries and other characteristics....
