18238 Winding Question
I recently had my 18238 overhauled by a very well known vintage watch specialty shop in Pasadena, CA.
I have noticed when my watch stops and I go to wind it to start it, just to get it initially going, I have to wind it 65-70 times before it will even start. Is this normal ? Thank you. |

Yes, you can tap it, but ideally you wouldn’t have to do that. I would be interested in seeing the beat error.

Common with Rolex as I have come to understand. My 16570 often won't start after 40+ winds. Now I just give it 20 winds and a "flick" of the wrist.

The watch... side, top - doesn't matter. Tap like you might tap the space key on a keyboard.
Often when the watch stops a part may sit on a dry spot, or the gears are in such as a position that they become "torque-locked". Nothing serious but a tap will settle the geartrain enough that it will begin ticking. In a perfect world everything would be properly lubed and relaxed enough that a small amount of spring pulling the geartrain gets it going, but the world is not perfect.

Not normal if this happens every time. Like others have said, you can give it a little tap but that should be necessary every time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
