Hi All. I know this is a difficult question to answer but is the sea Dweller easier to obtain from an AD then the Sub? I know if I go into my local AD and ask about the sub they don’t really want to know ,as they have so many enquiries so was wondering if the Sea Dweller is easy to get especially as it’s just under £3000 more.

Totally different watches, you have to try on to know which you like.
And is it easier to obtain? Depends on demand in your area.

I can tell you this. A 16600 is incredibly underrated at the moment and a very good buy in today’s market if you’re just looking for a watch for enjoyment instead of resale purposes.

Not sure in UK, in the states the SD is much easier to get than any submariner. Sometimes in stock for walk ins.

Yes it is - I’m in the UK too. I got my SD43 in about four weeks from my AD. I’d bought my YM & DJ before though, so had some purchase history.

Prior I had the opportunity to try a new Sub & SD side by side at the AD, & for me the SD was just more impressive in every way. I just had to have one & my AD duly obliged in a short space of time.

It’s a regular wear for me, & despite its size, feels very comfortable on the wrist.

The SD43 is an awesome watch but....

It is considerably bigger than a Submariner, if you like the size of the Submariner and think that it is the watch for you the SD43 may come as a bit of a shock, the fit is very different on your wrist, so must be tried beforehand.

I have a TT SD43 and a SS Submariner and prefer the fit of the Sea Dweller over that of the Submariner, to the point where I am in the process of selling the Submariner through Rolex's CPO program.

If you really want a Sub buy a Sub, the SD43 is not a Submariner substitute but a very different watch in its own right.

The Sub is borderline too big, the SD is far too large for most wrists. I always laugh when I see the smallest, loudest idiot in my office, looks like his SD is wearing him. There’s something about small people wearing big watches, similar to the large cars they drive.

I guess the SD is made in fewer numbers than a Sub, but again I would guess that for every person who visits an AD and asks for a SD, there are 10, probably even more people asking for a Sub.

The Sea Dweller can be had unworn for under retail in the UK so yes, it is easier to get than a Sub. As others have said it’s a very different watch though.

This is utter nonsense.

It all depends on an individuals capability to wear each watch, the shape and contours of the watch case, the shape of a owners wrist, the size of the wrist all contribute to the wearability of a watch, each of us is different and a watch will work well for some but not others.

I have a small wrist yet the SD43 sits really well on my wrist, it doesn't overpower the wrist simply because of the shape of my wrist. Yes it is a big watch but it fits me better than the Submariner I own.

hmm, I don’t think so. In fact, I think the sub 40 is the perfect size.
I never tried on the 41 because I don’t trust the 3235 so maybe the sub 41 is borderline too big, I don’t know. I notice many complaining about the large clasp?

As perfect as the sub 40 was, I still ended up selling it on for an SD4K because I enjoyed the smaller footprint with less ubiquity.

It’s a good job we are all different and have our own preferences. You don’t have to be offended by my opinion of a watch, after all, it doesn’t affect your enjoyment of yours

Agreed. The SD43 is very comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Wears much more like a compact 42mm and the case/lug contours make it very wearable. The key is sizing it properly and removing the diver’s extension.

It’s absolutely my favorite modern dive watch, with vintage cues of the red writing and matte dial. Some guys write it off because of the dimensions on paper, but I’d urge anyone unsure to try it on first.

I’ve owned/worn virtually every Rolex Sea-Dweller .... DRSD 1665, Great White 1665, several 16600s, the 116600, and now the SD43. The only one I really didn’t like was the 116600. The 40mm case size combined with the weight and thickness made it too top-heavy and uncomfortable.

With 6.75” you’re gonna have a tough time with many dive watches.
However, the SD43 is simply TOO BIG, and the only one I really don’t like.
Sweet spot for sea-dwellers is 40MM whether 16600 or SD4K.

But, to each their own. Thankfully many options exist.

Now back to the original comment from the op; the sea dweller is more readily available from the AD, notwithstanding the fact that subs are produced in numbers greater than 3 to 1.

Everyone eyes the sub as their first (and last) Rolex.

You state that the SD is 'too big for most wrists' then say its just your opinion with the watch, so your opinion equates to most people's wrists?

As stated an utter nonsense comment.

A comment that the watch was too big for you and could be too big for a lot of wrists would have been better.

SeaDweller is one of the few sports watches which is selling under retail or on retail in gray market. I wouldn't even bother with AD at this point.

I have been a diver watch's kinda guy for since I knew watches. And between Sub and SD, SD took the limelight for me since 16600 and I never looked back at subs again, except the 14060M and bluesy. Nonetheless, both latter and former have been long gone and SDs stay..
I just love it that its not common and truly built robust for a specific purpose.

I'm still waiting a few months for a Sub date but got a call for the SD43 about 23 hrs later. :) I bought it and found it felt too unwieldy for my liking.
