Rolex 228236 DD40. Glacier Blue. Sticks or Baguettes?

OK
While discussing watches with a friend he brought up the "grail" conversation. I said the Plat DD 40 and kinda realized I could actually get one if I just sold watches I do not wear anymore or have any emotional attachment to.

I can't decide if I want sticks or the diamonds.
In general I am not a diamond guy but on the Glacier Blue they almost blend in and don't "bling" like on a black dial. Im not interested in the Romans as I already have them on my YG DD40 which I am keeping.

So which would you go with for something you are going to wear at least a couple days a week?

I am struggling with the same choice.

The new baguette dial looks great/masculine, and I ultimately want one.

However for me, on the platinum DD40, I would get the ice blue dial with indexes.

I also want to get a DD40 with the MoP dial with the baguettes and prefer this combo in WG (after the platinum one is acquired).

Are you having any luck getting offered the DD40 Platinum? I held one in the metal (with the baguettes) at a grey dealer in Philly. I almost pulled the trigger, but really wanted the indexes.

No, no love from my AD...
He is a friend (from childhood) and he has nicely told me while he'd love to get me one and I have a 6 figure spend with them he only gets a couple a year and has people who spend 6-7 figures a year that have been waiting for a few years. I respect his honesty.

Gray prices are starting to come down so who knows. This isn't something I plan on doing in the next few weeks but who knows. I have to get a list of what I am getting ready to part with and see if I can work a trade with a gray dealer at some point.

Baguette looks so much nicer. White lume markers ruin the look of that dial IMO. Too small and close in color to that light blue to add something to the dial, different enough to grab attention and ruin it.

Baguettes without a doubt. Not a fan of the stick markers on this one.

I think the grey premium is about $10K to $15K if you are serious. There seem to be more baguette dials available vs the sticks.

It is distressing to see how many are available on the grey market given the ADs are not offering any....

Yeah I am serious but think Im gonna take the time to get a couple of the pieces I have serviced by their manufacturer so I get papers for a couple pieces that I do not have papers for and so a couple others get the right polish. I know I wont get all the $ back I spend on service but I think it will make it easier to try and work a trade with a gray dealer.

I have several watches I just do not wear anymore and see no reason to keep them. I don't "need" the cash Id get from them so why not consolidate them into one of two pieces Id really enjoy.

I debated selling most stuff I don't wear and going with a Patek 5270 but there's an old saying you should never meet your heroes and I just know I will get a 5270, drool over it and rarely ever wear it as I just never like watches on straps.

Rolex 228236 DD40. Glacier Blue. Sticks or Baguettes?

Bags- 100%

I have an older one with the smooth bezel and Romans and really like it, prob save you some money.. if you have bags and fluted on a 40 already it might be something to consider.

But you should forget all this and get the 5270. It’s my favorite watch!

I’m not a diamond guy either and only would accept them on the dial only , I have a few pieces with diamonds on dial never on the bezel it just way too much bling. Subtle is fine, elegant even. The baby blue or powder blue dial which ever you call it, is one of those exceptions, they go great together and add some refinement and elegance, IMO

So Yes! Diamonds on the dial is the way to go without question!

Cheers,

Baguettes

I find stick/batons on a DD boring. Too much DJ vibes.

For a DD, must be Romans or baguettes.

I think we have the same tastes and ideology on watches...This thread is making me rethink my position on the baguettes....Have you seen the MoP dial with baguettes?

Yeah but MOP is just too close of a shade to my YG White/Romans DD 40 (which I wore to dinner 2 nite).

This is the one dial where I would/am strongly considering the diamonds as they seem to blend with the dial fairly well and not stand out nearly as much as on a black dial etc. If I was going WG Id be after the meteorite.

Diamonds on this rare beast, personally, on a watch of this caliber, the more unique, the better.
