Grazie Bello! He loves it. In the snow, this thing is pretty handy, when it melts and the summer air arrives, he can remove the roof. I don't think he realizes how cool this thing is.

Anyone else see the 96 Dodge Viper GTS in iconic blue and white as the next sports car to go stratospheric?
Bought a nice clean <10k miles example about 10 years ago and values of comps hit nearly 3x during the covid craze. Sitting at around 2x what I paid today but by my assessment, has a path to 5x+ appreciation ($500k+) over the next 10 years. I cannot think of a car so primed for a major, sustained value ramp: * Demographics - poster car in mid/late 90s so those groups that had it on their bedroom walls will hit 50s in about 10 years - prime earning years and higher net worths. Core buyer demographic… and only 10 years away * Culture - video games featuring the car heavily were extremely popular and remain popular through retro game exposure * Comparables - also stacked up against 993 turbos (and typically the s variants) in performance shoot outs in the major magazines of the era. The Viper GTS is as (or more iconic) and more comparable in rarity in 96 blue white trim to the Turbo S. Rarer than the standard turbo. 993 turbos fetch 3x - 5x a comparable condition Viper today. The Turbo S fetches about 5-10x. * Performance - easily in the top 3 highest performing cars (ex super cars) of its era. Outperforming its contemporary Ferrari peers and equaling those same Turbo 911s * Rarity - these cars were abused and largely ignored as collector cars for decades. Heavily modded, many were crashed/trashed. Conservative estimate is 30% had major accidents. Combined, you will see 50% of examples remaining either are heavily modified or suffered serious damage at one time, if not totaled. Fewer than 1,200 examples global in intro year, leaving <600 unmolested today… we are talking far fewer examples than peer cars of the era, aside from 993 Turbo S variant. * Timeless styling - photos never do it justice (much like some classic Ferraris). It evokes the original Shelby Daytona Coupe and Cobra lineage but also is distinctive itself. The best styling of all Vipers, the nearest to it was the last Viper iteration (which essentially went back and lifted / tweaked the original). * Racing pedigree and heritage, across multiple categories * Rare example of an American car that also made a global impact in terms of desirability. Knowing many Germans who are Porsche owners, the Viper evokes lust that other cars do not. Incredibly rare in absolute terms, even rarer when considering foreign markets… it is as exotic as iconic Ferraris in Europe (though European TRF enthusiasts can confirm or deny)… it is not a mass produced Vette and carries none of that baggage Not selling it, and wouldn’t sell at $500k either. Toying with the idea of adding another, however. Seems to also have multi-generational appeal. My 6yo son’s favorite car of my (four) fun cars and also the car that attracts the most interest from kids/teens at Cars and Coffees. |

Thanks! Most of my photos of the car have my wife and/or kids in the shot haha. Though my kids are too little to ride in it (and it isn’t a car I’d drive them in anyways) and I can count on one hand the number if times my wife has ridden in it too.

Im officially questioning the value of the Urus. Again.
Make no mistake. It’s an amazing vehicle. So much fun to drive. And the sex appeal is unmatched in the SUV world. By a mile. However, as mentioned I bought an X6M for a jersey daily driver. Also mentioned, they are comparable in nearly every way. In some ways, such as tech and fit and finish, the BMW is better. Again, no comparison in sex appeal. Fast forward to this past week and I took my mothers 5 series in for service in Fla. I should have just got my coffee at and sat down. Instead I went looking at new cars. I find an incredibly specced X5M. Dark navy blue over baseball mitt brown. Everything else is blacked out. Just how I like it. Blue brakes. Executive package. Park assist package etc. fully loaded. If I trade, I’d literally get 100k back in my pocket. That’s a crazy amount of money whilst getting a fully equipped brand new top of the line SUV. It just doesn’t have the lambo badge. Which, I’ll fully admit, I do like. But this is hard to pass up. Getting older. Don’t care so much about the “show”. I just like what I like. And I also like money in my accounts. Besides, M cars are no slouch. I have a day or so to decide. But I think this decision has already been made. Hard to justify not taking advantage of something like this.

Me too as it is up on the lift (and we have nearly a foot of snow on the ground) ;-)
Will be another month and half before it will be out of winter hibernation. They are remarkable cars. Eventually they will be re-appreciated again and I will be kicking myself for not adding one or two more hah. |

Of all the cars I’ve owned, built, bought , sold, etc., I miss the Viper most. There’s a brutally raw element that, in my opinion, has not been duplicated in modern times. The body lines on the 2 gen GTS models are just spectacular.

In my view sex appeal and an SUV are two things that never combine. Yes it’s a Lamborghini but it regrettably is an SUV. Yes a powerful one but just that. Proper analysis of the others, which I also am not fond of but people love this type of car. The real sex appeal is the legitimate cars these supercar brands make. I’d get rid of it and take the more practical choice. This sort of thing never really comes close to the real concept behind the brands. |

The Urus does nothing for me. I don’t see the appeal (neither with Ferrari’s Purosangue).
It doesn’t even tick the box of first SUV for Lambo… and I find the LM002 a much more interesting approach anyways. |

Love it and sorry you parted with it. I very seriously considered (and may still) adding a second, in addition to a first gen roadster. I prefer the original coupe but something about the impractical nature of that first gen car appeals to me. I like my sports cars to have some “challenge” associated with them. My 911 4S being the exception but even then, it’s a rarer breed (manual, the last hydraulic, and not all “GT’d up” like the later versions.
That last photo does the best job of capturing the essence of a Viper coupe’s in-person presence. It is 50% muscle car, 50% sports car. Muscle aesthetic but with true sports car chops… and it is a car that, my opinion, most photos don’t do adequate justice to due to its proportions. In person, it all comes together because of how low and wide it is… the curves are the best out there, right up there with another favorite of mine, Ferrari’s 288 GTO (also far better looking in the flesh, though not easy to find one!) Beautiful! |

Sex appeal, for the individual, will of course always be subjective. However, from experience, the Urus creates a lot of interest on the street. Endless actually. Gas stations. Traffic. Valets etc. I personally love them. And find it immense fun to drive. That said, I fully understand and appreciate the perspective you both bring. It certainly is not for everyone. What is funny is referring to the X5M as the practical option. Because it absolutely is in this situation. But in the grand scheme of things, it is an exceptionally rare occasion to call this vehicle practical. All about perspective.

I think it’s a done deal at this point. Appreciate the comment.
