Is buying 5164 steel right now too late?
In the hunt for 5164 steel, looking for a newer year with a new buckle. Not sure if I am late to the game, or if it is a good time to buy. By the way, nice to see you all, Patek fans.

It's never "too late". It's a very hot watch so the prices are going to reflect that. They've even been going up the past 6 months on the 5164a for mint/new examples, especially with new style clasp. I'd say now is as good of a time as ever.
Plus, the 5164 is the coolest watch ever in my opinion. It's all i wear now

Rarely ever too late, it’s just a matter of the money required to get what you want.

Yes, and that is one of the reasons I prefer newer years, so at least it satisfies the higher new price.

It’s better to buy it now rather than later since it’s discontinued.
I assume rising white gold prices will maintain strong demand for the steel version. |

No I don’t think it is too late. I still believe the stainless 5164 is a good purchase…especially given Patek’s penchant for discontinuing stainless sports watches. From a purchase perspective, the new 5164g has created a floor on pricing so I don’t expect the price to go down. For what it is worth it is one of my favorite watches to wear. It can do anything and go anywhere.

Never too late. The 5164A is Patek's GADA watch in my opinion and mine gets a ton of wrist time which helps justify the price. If you do choose to go down this route, try to find a later model with the updated 26-330 movement as others have said.

Depends on your time horizon
Prices are probably flat to negative in the short term (next 2-3 years) due to macro economic environment, but should go up higher in the longer term.

I say get the watch…the bubble is over, any market changes will be marginal if that is of concern. If you are looking for a do it all Patek…that is the one!

![]() ![]() Top clasp is the old one. Bottom is need as of maybe 3 years ago. Top was the old ”inbuilt” spring rendition. New has a totally different mechanism.
