Just picked up a new 116000 ... here is a mini-review (+ some pics)

I just got one of the new 116000 Oyster Perpetuals. I had been stalking them since I heard they would be 36mm. Mini-Review:

Pros:
- The new case. The chunkier DJ-style case is a winner.
- Clasp. The new Rolex clasps are (finally) Top Notch.
- Brushed bracelet and lugs. More Explorer than DJ.
- Lots of dial choices.
- 3-6-9 Lume
- No cyclops!

Cons:
- The dial choices are all kind of sporty for what seems like a smaller, dressier watch.
- No date.

The last picture is with the rest of my small collection ... 1963 (birth year) DJ & 14060 (on a brushed Daytona bracelet, my favorite watch).

All things considered, I think this new OP is a winner.

Very interesting....
I have to say, iin your collection, it looks a bit like a black sheep...

Love your classic vintage DJ...
And the SS Sub requires no comment...

It will be interesting to see where/if this new model will find its audience...

Congrats. Nice collection. But, I have to be honest, the 116000 does not do it for me. Too many disparate styling elements.

Congratulations.... I think it is a nice addition to your collection - I have not seen that before! I love your sub and someday, I will have that very same DJ. Congratulations!

That's more like it.

I'm not keen on the dial but the rest of the watch is an absolute beauty. Lovely brushed finish on the case and bracelet - good to see Rolex have not completely lost the plot.

If it had a more classic dial it's exactly the kind of Rolex so many of us want them to make - and I think they are still at a slightly more realistic price than other Rolex models.

Nice one cAPSLOCK. I too have a 116000 recently bought with blue face and arabic 3,6,9 numerals.

Since buying the watch early October I have seen pics of a blackface with white (not pink!) arabic 3,6,9 numerals on a Japanese website. Does anyone know if this is a genuine Rolex dial option? The watch then looks like a smart updated Explorer 1.

I noticed the casing is brushed North to South rather than the usual 120 degrees, angled, just like the DSSD or GMTc...

Nice watch,
Randy
