Ok ok ok... New 40mm Cubitus kinda slaps

The new 40mm 7128/1R in Rose gold looks insane. Size will seemingly be perfect and I think proportions of that watch will be awesome

I was surprised by the Cubitus. Much better in-the-flesh than in photos. Also very much dependent on the wrist.

I wrote it off too soon. Will need to try the smaller release too. Likely a better fit for more people…

It is as well-proportioned as the 5711. 'Nuff said.

It looks like a mix of the Nautilus and the Cartier Santos, while being a worse version of either. I unintentionally (and embarrassingly) laughed out loud at how ridiculous the Cubitus models looked in person with their ill-fitting movements and Panerai/Breitling circa 2005 sizing. The smaller release should take away the main howler factor, so maybe I’ll go look again and see what I might have missed the first time. At nearly $80K USD, though, I doubt I’ll pull the trigger given superior market alternatives at that price point.

The 5811 beats the 40mm Cubitus hands down IMO.

The mechanism in the 5822P will not look good squashed into the 40mm case.

The 5822P is gorgeous on the wrist and much smaller than 45mm implies.

The only problem with the 5822P is that Patek produce a very small number of platinum watches so the position on the wait list may be passed on to one’s son but the watch won’t be. Might even be a UK inheritance tax ruse in there somewhere!

The 40mm Cubitus is lovely! Especially the one in WG.
But the fact Patek priced it higher than the 5811 is borderline insanity for a new line-up.
Suspect Thierry hates that the Nautilus was designed by Genta and wants the Cubitus to be the face of Patek’s sport watch line-up, but still!
If it was priced better, I think the 40mm WG Cubitus has a great fighting chance of being as sought after as the 5811. A very nice piece with an ultra exorbitant price tag!

I’m not a fan of the cubitus- entire release last year and the newer smaller kinda bum me out a little :-(. But that’s why this hobby and journey and discussions are so fun as there are many that do love the cubitus :-). There is a watch and a place for everyone! Hope those that are on the list for one can get their Cubitus allocation soon!

Their pricings are very similar - the 5811 S$107k and the 7821 S$110k (no tariff between Singapore and Switzerland). There is probably more gold in the 7821 due to the squarish profile. The only way to confirm is by weighing both.

The new smaller sized iterations are definitely an improvement, look forward to seeing them IRL.

40mm a big improvement. I think they would look better on strap vs bracelet.

I don’t know.. I don’t think the full size wears much bigger than a standard nautilus. I haven’t seen the 40 but probably way too small for me.

I saw these 2 YT shorts yesterday and focused, as a true TRF member, on the wrist.

First one with, it seems, a green Cubitus and the second with (it seems) the blue one (blue strap).

I think it looks very good and as a change in styling or trend (shape watches).

I tried on the blue one and like it a lot. Very slim and perfect proportions on the wrist so they have listened to constructive comments and nailed it with this iteration. I know some prefer the 45mm too so tastes may vary. I would prefer it steel 40mm and green dial option but for me it’s a very nice addition to the current production.

The 6196p is my fav however of the new releases and id pick that over any other current production piece right now given the option.

Which do you prefer now that you have had the cubitis for a few months?

I thought I'd like the 40mm size better than the larger size, and I have to say, it's still not growing on me.

It is a really "harsh" looking watch.....best way I can describe it. It's very severe in the square-ness of the shape, and like all non-round watches, it looks like it wears bigger than the 40mm suggests.

It's just not an elegant watch, even for a sports watch, and that is usually not something I would say about a Patek watch.

And if it is for "young" buyers and an entry way into Patek....at that price, the young people they are talking about must be kids of Middle Eastern princes and kings.

Those that have tried the 45mm on and dismiss it fair enough but to judge it purely on dimensions and dismiss it is hasty to say the least. As the pictures show they are almost identical yet no one says the Nautilus is too big. I totally agree with APhound and his real world based opinion.

I was lucky enough to try one on and it fits me exactly as I'd want a watch too and the slimness makes it feel perfect for my wrist. I'd sell a kidney for the platinum version.

Personally I'd designate the 40mm too small and therefore as the ladies version.

I always mention that point, which should be a basic in many other aesthetic fields. Seeing in the metal before judging is mandatory. One can't judge fairly without holding (and experience in comparison is also recommended, shaping our eyes' acuity). The subtlety and rendering in finishing, colors, aren't visible on pictures. It's also true with the size. There are watches that sit well on a wrist while others don't for a same dimension. A busy or a simple dial change the size as well (not mentionning the dial vs bezel ratio, etc...).

But that's forum life

The Cubitus square shape finds its context in the shape watches area. An area that wasn't the trend over the last decades and that is more difficult to shape our tastes too.

Like with cars, clothes, shapes take time to accept (or not), standards are not fix.

I recently tried on the new size, and the old size too. I think they both work!

Well if it is for the entry level person to Patek sign me up. Patek just does the Rose gold & brown combo perfectly. I do find it hard to believe that I could walk in and get the 40mm Cubitus as a first time buyer. Maybe when I see in the metal my view will change.

It looks infinitely better in 40mm, but I still prefer the proportions of the Nautilus. Perhaps if the’d been more bold in giving it its own identity - for instance thinner bezel or different finishing or new bracelet - it would have been more appealing.
