Intro from Toronto (area)

Figure I ought to say hi here, share some photos etc.

Am in Canada far enough outside Toronto that where I live there are zero watch stores or groups. So online and my workbench are where I get my fill of watches. Still waiting for the right Rolex to come my way.

One of my proudest watch moments was repairing my brother in law's father's 6564 with honeycomb dial that was passed down to him. Sorry for photos, I don't have enough posts to add links yet.

Watch didn't work at all: automatic works wouldn't engage, stem was broken and crown was missing, hands were bent.

The dial looked like it might be a lost cause with discolouration and ROLEX being damaged :(

Tracking down the period correct 6564 crown based on the serial (one of the Brevet crowns) was a real pain.

Anyway, got most of it disassembled (did automatic works after this photo):

The grunge under the bezel was real:

Once I got it running it settled in nicely and was within a few seconds a day in all positions. Me having no watchmaking background and getting it even remotely close to timekeeping specs is a testament to the serviceability and design of the 1030 movement.

I've no idea how much was original - most 6564 with honeycomb dials that I found photos of had lume pips on each index and sword hands.

Anyway, got it working, gave it a little polywatch on the crystal, and he's going to wear it at his wedding. So job done.

Edit?

Seems I can't edit my post, but was going to change the title to "Intro from Toronto (area)".
