Oh shoot. This 44mm carbotech is calling my name. I loved the 979 but wished it was in 44. I said it would be a near perfect diver in 44.

There is the recently released PAM 1698 MM submersible Carbotech which is 44mm. Surprisingly, no one has mentioned it on the forum yet.

Ok hold on. So the 1698 is the one I was referring to I think.
I had never seen this model before, but I like it. I like carbotech a lot. It was an amazing material to wear when I had the 979. I always wished it was in 44 and the only reason I decided to let the watch go after many years of use. And by the way, it looked brand new. Not a mark on it. So this 1698 is very interesting to me.

That makes more sense, only because I don’t know about any Revolution collaboration. I’ve added a picture showing the new 1697 and 1698 (both of which are on the Panerai website). I totally agree with you about the 44mm carbotech…it’s just the pricing which gives me pause, unfortunately.

Agree about pricing. Darn I like the look. Maybe in time they will pop up on second hand market.

I work for Panerai Las Vegas.

The 1698 has nothing to do with Revolution magazine. It is a commemorative honoring Naval Aviators. 300 pce production. The two tone faded green/black dial evokes the pilots helmets, the grey markers evoke the color of the ships, and the green canvas evokes the flight suits.

Got one at our boutique, PM me if interested

Panerai Carbotech is in a class by itself. Other carbon watch producers such as Hublot, Breitling and TAG fabricate bricks of 60-80 layers of carbon fiber material that they then bake.

Panerai fabricates a brick of 130 layers of ultra fine carbon material that then goes through a "sintering" process, similar to an artificial diamond, that combines intense heat and pressure. The brick condenses down approximately 35% producing a carbon that is the lightest and hardest on the market.

Panerai had to create an independent fabrication facility just to handle the CNC machining of Carbotech. Thus the higher production cost.

Thanks for the details on carbotech. I can vouch for the robustness of the material having worn one nearly every day and certainly not babying it. After 5 years it literally looked brand new. And it was so light and comfortable to wear. Of course I do wish they were less expensive! I would probably buy that one we are discussing)).
