Then your watch was definitely made after 1960.

The other way to comfirm is the calibre of the movement. A 1603 will have a calibre 1565/1575 movement those movements we're not made in the 40's. When you open it look at the movement and the auto bridge will have the number on it. That's the center bridge with the occillating weight that spins on it. Rik the watchmaker

Your watch is around 1956 vintage which is not far off from when you purchased it. What I've noticed on the older watches is that it is three or four years before the watch even makes it to a dealer to be sold. So, all is well and your case still appears to be original.

I assume the case back would have a 1956 mark, if true? Can't wait for my case cracker. |

Well, I didn't know that. This is a "Learning Experience" for me. The "Case Cracker" wrench with Rolex Dies came today, but in order to not screw up the case, I need more components... so, I ordered a complete (Not Bergeron, alas...) LG OpenAll Wrench and base set.
Obviously,it would be far, far too easy to simply take it to my Rolex jeweler, wouldn't it? I shall keep those of you that remain curious posted. Bill |

You want to talk about old inventory:
My mom's Lady DJ was handed down to her by my grandmother. On the case back engraving, my grandfather dated it "1957" when he bought the watch in HongKong. After we got it back from servicing, the watchmaker informed us that the watch was made in 1943! |

Mystery Solved.
Well, I received my "case cracker" today and opened up my SS Datejust, serial # 164808. Inside the caseback was "IV64".Soooo, 4th quarter of 1964 was manufacture timeframe.
And, there is no doubt about the serial number. So, is this serial number just an anomaly or what? And, I really have some self inflicted doubts about watertight integrity now, so after all this, I will probably take it in to be serviced by an AD. Oh well. |
