TT GMT-IIc vs. TT Sub-c

Hi all,

First, I wanted to introduce myself and say how much I've been enjoying TRF! While I've been a regular participant on some of the other forums out there, I'm somewhat of a newbie here.

Anyway, after lurking around here for a few weeks, I've finally decided to pull the trigger on my next watch - my first TT. The only problem is that I'm completely torn between the new TT Sub-c (blue) and the TT GMT-IIc. My current daily wearers consist of an AP ROO Safari and a Pam88. I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!

Welcome to this wonderful forum of ours, Pete.

Personally, I don't care too much for the shade of BLUE Rolex have slapped on the new TT SubC.

By the same token, the black on the TT GMT-IIC is amazing and it's a much more practical watch too.

Try them both on and see which one appeals more to you. I don't think you can really go wrong with either one of them.

Good luck - JJ

Welcome to TRF Pete!

I'm also not a fan of the new blue TT Sub. Now if it were a new black TT Sub that you were contemplating, I'd vote that way! Between the blue Sub and TT GMTII-C, my vote goes to the GMTII-C.

Boy, even though you have the 88, I'd have to go with the IIc here. A black TT sub and I might rethink.

I'd agree - if it's between the new TT Bluesy and the TT GMTc, I'd go for the latter, but the TT black Sub is a different proposition...

My vote is for GMTII-C. The blue on the new TT sub just doesn't look right to me.

I purchased a tt GMT2 C, LOOOOVE IT. After seeing what Rolex did to the New Ceramic Subs I bought myself a v series Two tone sub (non ceramic) as they MESSED up a classic. I figured it may be the last model year of one of the nicest watches ever produced!!!

I don't see how you could go wrong with either. But if you must only choose one, I still stand by my opinion that the GMT II-c is the best looking new Rolex.

I voted for the blue sub because I always thought that gold+black=ugly

However if you prefer black I would go with the TT black ceramic sub instead

The numbering on the GMT II ceramic bezel looks just ugly to me..

Go for what you really like. I have both watches and never regreted buying them. I wear my sub during the day and my GMT at night. They both are beautiful watches and would likely increase in value over the years. Best advice: place both watches in front of you and try them one at a time. Otherwise, flip a coin.

Enjoy whatever you choose.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! As of now, I'm likely to go with the GMT over the Sub (although I'm now interested in seeing the new TT black sub thanks to some of your comments). The way I see it, it makes more sense going with the GMT given its lower price given how new the sub is. I can always pick up the sub in the future once the prices fall more in line with the GMT.

While the general consensus seems to favor the TT GMT-IIc, what are your thoughts regarding which color dial (blue vs. black) is an "older" look? I ask because I'm in my late 20s and up until recently, I haven't had any interest in TT or gold watches as they didn't seem as age appropriate. Thanks again!

I have also voted for the GMT Master II! Only difference between that and the Submariner now is the thickness of the caseback and one having Glidelock clasp (Submariner, of course), GMT feature can come in hady also. Can do a lot of watersports in the GMT once your not going beyond the depth rating

I voted for the GMT, but, I prefer the sub. The GMT is just more "useable" than the sub, and more neutral color. That said, I love the new blue!

Same here! I don't SCUBA dive so the GMT was it for me. It is safe to 300' down so even if I DID SCUBA dive, it would be highly unlikely that I would dive deeper. The watch is a hottie!

My vote goes to the TT GMTc, but the Sub has gotten a well deserved makeover, just my opinion.

Of the two choices you gave us I voted for the GMT IIc, but I think you should check out the TT black sub.

The GMT is nice, but if you don't need to track the time in multiple time zones the sub bezel is more useful. The new GMT bezel can only be set to the hour while the sub bezel can be set down to the half minute.

I use my older GMTII all the time for timing stuff. So when they tell me my pizza will be ready for pickup in 20 minutes I can turn the bezel to show when 20 minutes will be. Prior to the IIc the GMT watches were the most versatile because they could track multiple time zones and double as a timer. This is not possible with the new bezel.

Check out the TT black sub. I think it is the more useful watch unless you really need multiple time zones.

don't know if you have bought a watch yet but I have to change my mind - I just tried on the new blue sub - AD let me go into the bright Australian sunshine - and I completely and utterly fell in love - the blue is MESMERIC - seriously it is an awesome watch - However, I already have the GMT2c SS and it is the contrast of the blue face that I would go for. I think the new tt Blue Sub C is a fabulous day watch - I had jeans and a t shirt on today and I very nearly pulled the trigger on it..... and I may still do it
