DD F and D Series owners - question for you....
I really like that Rolex has the engraving of the Case's Serial Number into the
inside edge of the case (at the 6 o'clock position, under the crystal and below the bezel). The Serial Number is engraved into the case at the 6 o'clock position, with "ROLEX" engraved repetitiously around the dial in a circular fashion. But my question has to do with when this started. QualityTyme.net says that it started in 2005, but then provides an example of a watch with the F series. And later in the same page they say that the F series is from 2003. So, my question is to F and D Series DD owners -- does your watch have the Serial Number engraved in the inside edge of the case? http://www.qualitytyme.net/pages/numbers.html F000001 .........................2003 D000001 .........................2005 Z000001 ..........................2006 M000001 ..........................2007 V000001 ..........................2008 (I'm looking for a used Platinum DD that has the SN engraved in the inside so I'm wanting to know which is the earliest series I should be looking at) Thx!! |

I believe most models started with the engraved rehaut at the end of the M series...

Sorry, don't have the answer to your question but now I have a question of my own. Bought my watch in summer of 2008, why do I have a M series????????? If I had known, I would have made sure it was a V series!

It's just a letter, it has no real importance. Don't worry about it and just enjoy your watch. Besides, the vast majority of watches released last summer would have been M serials: my Datejust (which, might I add, came directly from Rolex, not just sitting around in a cabinet) is a M 5XXXXX, and was bought last July. Series are run concurrently, and just show when the case was stamped, not when the watch was actually made. I can also tell you that my local AD is still taking delivery of brand new M serials right now, so don't feel like you've been swindled.

Thanks Chris. I don't feel duped anymore.
Question to everyone - is there a visual difference between platinum and white gold? Is it actually shiner??? Or is it just bragging rights to say you own a platinum watch (I would love to have that bragging right)? |

I went in to an AD to look at the WG and then I saw the Platinum. Wow! Of course there's the weight difference, but there is a slight yellow to the WG that the Platinum doesn't have.
Now, if they were both on opposite sides of the room, I don't think you'd see a difference by the time you walked across the room to the other one. But side-by-side I could tell. jmho |

@mrK -- thx much. I think we can safely say that the etching includes
Z000001 ..........................2006 M000001 ..........................2007 V000001 ..........................2008 Along with MrK's confirmation of his Z being engraved, I found this Z Series online that clearly has the etching visible: http://www.bernardwatch.com/watch/RLX3965 So, now we just need to see if the F and D series has them. ....Am I the only one who finds this interesting? ;^) F000001 .........................2003 D000001 .........................2005 |

rehaut
@moviefreak -- I had to google the word "rehaut". Learn something new everyday!
http://montresuisses.blogspot.com/20...ut-flange.html "Rehaut is defined as a "flange"" Le rehaut can be, in a fixed configuration, a flange which raises the crystal above the dial and hands. On the Rolex Submariner, for example, the rehaut exists in the same plane as the external rotating (elapsed time) bezel. On many Rolex watches of more recent manufacture the rehaut is repetitively engraved with the "Rolex [coronet] Rolex [coronet]" design. In this design the serial number is engraved on the rehaut at six o'clock and the serial number also continues to appear between the six o'clock lugs. To reiterate, the area under the crystal of a watch is properly referred to as the rehaut, in French. In English the proper term would be a "flange." The flange (or rehaut) is sometime mistakenly referred to as the "chapter ring." Last edited by locosman; 10 October 2009 at 11:52 AM.. Reason: adding image |
