The best watches for under $250

We can all find a nice Rolex, but how about something nice that costs less than even the sales tax that we paid on our Rolexes? Here's a challenge for you, post a watch or watches that you would like to own (or so own and love!) that cost under US$250.

Here's my entry to start.

The one on the left is the best bang for buck for less than a grand, IMO.

This was $280 CDN

For $525, a Steinhart is also decent for the features you get.

The Traser 6502 series has a nice Ronda movement, sapphire crystal, screw down crown, and tritium tubes

The Precista MOD homage watches from Eddie at Timefactors also come to mind. Again, Ronda movements, sapphire crystal, and screw down crowns.

Depth in meters. It is a fun watch; as soon as you dive over 1 meter of water (aprox 3 ft) it will record depth and time.

The Swatch Fun Scuba is a pretty good dive watch. However, one if the major rules in scuba diving is to never-ever rely on 1 instrument; you check all instruments to make sure you are ok.

Your BCD has a pressure gauge (air) and a depth meter; however, it is simpler and faster to check depth at your wrist than at the meter...plus the Fun Scuba starts great conversations with fellow divers.

I have seen other guys bring their high-tech wrist dive computers worth several thousands of dlls; they always look at my swatch and go 'wow, that is cool' (and under $100!)

Gerardo, based on the taste and panache you have shown in your other watch choices, I have no doubt that this watch is a fantastic value. And a conversation piece as well.

Oh yeah, Paul:

1) Leopard crawling uphill with a recoilless rifle through gravel
2) Damage from explosive debris
3) Gouged on the top of the crown by a bayonet

and a couple of dings and scratches from various parachute landings.

This baby's picked up heaps of character, all right.

Yeah, Paul, these days it's living in happy retirement on my watch winder, telling the DJ and Tudor, "Now sonny, in my day ...". I wonder if TNRonin and Paratrpr Tom have similar watches.
