What does it take!??....
....to scratch a sapphire crystal??. I've NEVER done one myself. I thought they were just about indestructable. I have yet to have the "new Rolex" experience, and I'm very comfortable with the used or "previously loved", but twice now I've recieved two with scratches and chips in the sapphire crystal. I know these are synthetic sapphire, but the material must be very high on the hardness scale. What are these previous owners knocking into that scratches them up? Diamonds???

well, if your like me and your wife has a "formidably" sized diamond wedding ring and she sleeps with it sometimes; I tell her to switch to the lesser - less harmful - basic wedding band, cause the diamond WILL scratch that sapphire from stem to stern and keep going til its gotten itself safely under a pillow.
I dont know, as I have seen crystals scratched by door knobs and railings too... Thanks, Randy |

Sapphire is not indestructable.. If you smack it into a cinderblock wall, stucco walls, or any number of other things with sharp, hard burrs........
But it is difficult. ... I have not had any issues with scratches but I have knocked a chip off the edge on a few of them........
