Border Problems??

Has anyone ever had problems with the border either entering canada or the U.S. I am contemplating ordering from the U.S. but am unsure what problems one could encounter at the border if any. Help.

Having to pay import duties and taxes are the only downfall...!

We were questioned about our watches, actually in some detail Asked if we bought them in the bahamas (we had not). I thought that would be the end of it, but then he pop quizzed us about where they had been purchased. So, I would not take any unnecessary risks in that regard. Buy it abroad, pay the duty.

There's a potential problem if you're shipping a Rolex. What I was told is that Rolex is the only entity that can import a Rolex and therefore your watch may wind up being seized.

Sounds a bit heavy-handed but that's what I was told.

I bought a watch from a Canadian seller and had someone wear it across the border and mail it from within the US.

The duty really isn't that much, and now the CAD is on par with the USD, so if you can get a better deal in the USA, do it.

Or be fined $25,000 and be stopped at the border for the next 7 years. Your choice.

Even if you don't get stopped with it now, if you ever do, at any point in your life, you will have to prove you paid taxes on it in Canada. And then the fee is 40% plus taxes.

Just keep in mind that there are two ways to go here.

1. Legal. which means it's going to cost some money

2. Illegal, which could mean one of two things - you either get away with it or you get caught and pay a LOT of money.

Don't mean to shift the subject, but what if it is used and/or vintage Rolex watch, how is that considered? [specifically when shipped]
