Polishing

I'm sure this has been discussed before and I just haven't found it but...

almost a month into ownership of my Milgauss GV and I've picked up a couple of (very small, hardly noticable) scratches on the bracelet. When in at the local AD on another matter (SS Daytona) they said that they do full 'valets', including polishing, for £100. At that price it wouldn't be a biggie to do every few months. However, I'm concerned not to take too much metal off the watch. So, how often do people polish and what are people's thoughts on how often one should?

If the scrtches are minor and it does not bother you I suggest not to polish it. I feel minor scratches give it sort of nice used look. Unless you plan to sell now doe it matter?

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the full treatment that often. If you get the valet's done at the time of service (every five to seven years) your GV will give you several decades of pleasurable wear.

Now, I don't think you should be polishing your watch that often. Maybe once very 2 - 4 years would be OK, but once every few months would destroy a rather nice finish on the case and bracelet. You'll be delighted with the polishing results the first 2 or 3 times you polish it, but will then regret it when you reach your watch's limit of 'polishability'

I called up Rolex service center in NYC and asked if I should polish my watch every year (i hate the micro scratches). They said don't do it because every time the watch gets polished a very very very thin layer of the watch gets stripped

What happens when you reach the limit (in terms of result achieved)?

Polishing removes material and softens details. DO NOT have your watch polished every few months unless you want an amorphous blob on your wrist in a very short period of time.

Have your watch serviced by Rolex every 5 to 7 years and learn to appreciate your battle scars in between.

You would have superlative perpetual polishing syndrome
