Icon5 A survey on accuracy

How often do you actually check the accuracy of your Rolex?
How do you do it?
What were the results?
How does your Rolex compare to other (non-quartz) watches you may have tested?

Check for accuracy here:
http://www.time.gov/
Mine is plus or minus 1 second when I check every month or so.

Started checking my DJ on Monday. Syncronized with the Sub on the Rolex website. since Monday I am 20-22 seconds slow. Next week I will try face-down at night and check the difference. This week was face-up. Don't know how accurate the site is but it seems to work.

The Site Link (a beautifull TT Sub):

Michael

Also, I have an Omega Constellation Quartz that is right on with the Sub.

I check and/or set it every Sunday just because I'm curious. It's never been more than 4 seconds off for a whole week. I keep it flat at night.

I check mine on time.gov once a week or so. It's slow. Loses one or two seconds a day. I don't bother to correct it too often.

I check it about once a week. I do so much less with the GMT IIC than with other Rolexes I've owned in the past as it keeps near perfect time. It is by far the most accurate mechanical watch I've ever experienced. Kudos Rolex on the magnificent 3186.

+2 seconds or -2 seconds, I personally don't care. I love my watch it keeps accurate enough time and that is all I am concerned about.

I usually check about once a week and don't obsess. My wife, on the other hand, just got a new DJ and I asked her how accurate it was and she responded..."I don't know, it really isn't about telling time it is jewelry".

I use timeanddate.com and check it on Monday mornings.

My Sub is consistent with a gain of 1.5 sec/day. In order to "correct" for that I set it 20 seconds behind at the beginning of each month (and adjust the date if needed) which spreads out the approx. 45 seconds it will gain during that month so, on any given day, only off by a max of a few seconds.

I mostly now set my watches once a month or when the date needs changing and by any reliable time source. My life is not run to the absolute second, or the odd minute either way now.But don't think anyones life is run to the absolute second whats in a few odd seconds a day anyway. And one of my most consistent and accurate watches is powered by a Chinese Seagull ST19 manual wide chronograph that cost just $60. and runs well within COSC test standards.

But I gave all that time checking nonsense 25 plus years ago, I have been around Rolex watches now for almost 30 years. And have a few Rolex of varying ages some 80 plus years old, and they have all ran within a few seconds a day.And in all my working years I was never late for work or any appointments or bus train plane times etc and thats accurate enough for me what more could anyone ask from any mechanical watch.

I set my watches using www.time.gov, when it's working correctly (it's been acting up lately).

My 1987 TT DJ 16013 got back from the RSC on 11/4. I set it 9am 11/5, exactly 8 days later it had gained 4 seconds. If that holds, it will be +1/2 sec/day. I'll get a better average when I change the date at the end of this month. Happy so far.

My sheep give out 6 bleats on the hour every hour.

The 6th bleat tells me the exact time!!

check mine against my sundial.

But I think the sundial is running +6 secs a day.

I'll have to send it in for re-calibration.

Thanks for all the posts! Different strokes for different folks. I'm not a crazy about precision in seconds but I do have great respect for accuracy in a mechanical movement and the accuracy of a non-quartz movement would be, for me, nice to know. Use to collect early railroad pocket watches, their accuracy was respected and appreciated by many in their day.
