GMT 2c AR coating

Does anybody out there know why Rolex chose to use AR coating on the date window but not on the rest of the crystal. Its a massive improvement in visability of the date so why stop there. Alot of other manufacturers use AR either on one or both sides of the crystal with great affect in my opinion. I know some people don't like it on the outer side of the crystal because of scratching. I completly understand that though its never bothered me personally. Do Rolex consider it more important to see the date clearly over the time ?

I think the date window is a problem area that they were specifically targeting with that. I too would like to see all models get AR on the inside.

The Rolex stand on AR coating is that they want the crystal to be seen as it is a piece of watch.

No, I read it somewhere in an interview where a Rolex representative was saying that there is no plans to add AR to any watches other than the cyclops.

I think they also talked about dual color ceramics as well and that Rolex was investigating it with limited success.

The dial is part of the watch too and I cant see that sometimes because of the glare from the crystal. And the cyclops just exaggerates this for even less clarity. The main reason for wearing a watch is to read the time easily and conviently. The lack of AR makes the simple task harder than it needs to be.

I read the same thing.

It was the interview with the CEO in that Mag that had the Rolex logo embossed into the cover (I think).

Rolex never coat their crystals.

Yes, the new GMT-IIC have only the cyclops bit coated with anti-reflective coating making it so much easier to read the date.

I have never had a problem reading the time on my GMT-IIC - clear as ever and readability in a nanosecond!!

It wasn't a question of "if", but a question of "when" one of you tossers would chime in with that!!

My Breitling aerospace has a coated crystal and it shows every smudge. It's great when it's perfectly clean I don't like cleaning it three or four times a day. I'd rather put up with a bit of glare.

3X what JJ states. There is never a glare with the crystal on my GMTIIc. The AR for the cyclops was the perfect update. That was always a minor annoyance (the cyclops viewing angle) on watches I have owned in the past.

That being said, my Omega Seamaster PO would be perfect if the AR coating was not on the outside and on the inside only. The smudges do become annoying at times.
