Waay, Way Ot
I've got some nerve posting this on a Rolex forum, but you guys (and guyette's) are pretty cool and I've hung out here for a while. Here's my latest acquisition, a solid 18K pocket watch made in England in 1865. It has a fusee movement which is way, way cool (Google fusee). I promise to post about our Rolex's from now on, but I had to show you this one:

Superb! What a beauty.
I'm sure you're really proud of obtaining it and I'm envious as hell. Enjoy and thanks for sharing. |

this isn't the movement in mine, but it's similar. To compensate for the reduced tension as the mainspring unwound, early watch designers tapered the watchamacallit to compensate. I'm pretty new to horology, but it's fascinating. Some of the ideas they came up with 200 or so years ago are pretty interesting.

To get back on the Rolex track....
.... I'll post fresh pix of this one when it gets back from the watchmaker. It's in for an overhaul now. Late 30's/early 40's Rolex pocket watch, British military issue. The "B" on the caseback indicates it was a designed as a backup to a primary watch, living in a box or enclosure in a vehicle or vessel. Who knows, this sucker might have landed at Juno Beach:

"Does it still keep time?"
Close enough. It's about 2 minutes a day off. If I can be that punctual when I'm 150, I'll consider it a feat! |

Very nice Al!
We have an old clock tat was from a bank in Australia and it has a fusee chain movement. Great stuff! Here is a fusee from a Lang wrist watch........for those who have a lot of money! It shows the arrangement quite well. |
