GMT vs.GMT II
Besides the independently adjustible 24 hour hand, is there any other differences between the 2 models?? I find it interesting the Rolex put them BOTH out simuntaneously for a few years.
What about case thickness?, weight?, bezel ratcheting, dial? etc. etc. |

Ah, I'm learning fasting that you guys can respond...!
The GMT I (16700) has the quick set date feature since it's not a Jump hour movement. Also, the GMT II has the newer and better solid end link bracelet, vs the older and more flimsy hollow end link of the GMT. |

Well... Yes..and no...
the watches are identical except for the movement.. Yes, the later GMT Master did have a quickset date and synced hands.. But that is a function of the movement and the entire reason for the GMT II designation... II's got the adjustable hour hand. As for the bracelet........ all GMT and GMT II's wore the same bracelet... It's just that the GMT Master was discontinued in 1999, a year before the SEL bracelet came out The GMT 16700 can wear the SEL bracelet too..

Here is an interesting feature of SEL cases.. They have a groove machined in between the lugs to catch the back of the SEL link.. the early bat-wing end-links don't use this groove..
Watches without the groove will not accept an SEL bracelet without work, and one of the reasons the Sub 14060 (and early GMT's etc) still doesn't have SEL's. ![]()

Ummmmmmmmm...the 1675's (& perhaps the 16700 & 16750?) had matte dials while the 16710 (& 116710 obviously) had a glossy dial. Not sure about the 'Fat Lady' 16760.
Also, the 1675's went through 2 different 24 hour hands (perhaps even 3)...the original 'small' hand, the larger hand and the 'all red' hand. And then of course we have the green hand on the IIc... As for the bezel- the 1675 (not sure about the others) had a smooth turning 'push lock' bezel with no stops. The 16710 had the 120 click bezel, and the IIc...24 clicks. I do love the GMT's!

I'm starting to like them too. I'm thinking my way through flipping my M series Black Exp II to get a pre-ceramic GMT

There is a small shelf machined in the back of the case here... The end-link of an SEL Bracelet will fit into that groove and be somewhat flush on the back of the case.. The Hollow End link has two big flat "bat-wings" that just rest against the back of the case and do not need the machined groove..
