Montblanc Marlene Dietrich

Hey everyone,

I just got a great offer for the Marlene Dietrich fountain pen. I was wondering if anyone has one, and what they thought of it. Its a gift for my fiance, and i struggled between the fountain pen and ballpoint for a while. In the end, i just liked the look of the fountain, and I'm hoping she won't find using a fountain pen too impractical. My first 'nice' pen purchase!

That is a great pen for your fiance. It is a feminine pen IMHO. For that reason I have never really considered buying one for myself.

Montblanc seem to make a number of limited editions for women. Maybe that shows the popularity of fine pens among women.

Anyway, I'm sure it will be a pen up to the usual quality of Montblanc. As long as the nib (the single most important aspect of a Fountain Pen IMHO) is to your fiance's liking then she will love it.

The nib should just flow wonderfully for her, if that is the case, then she will love it and make it her go to pen. If it is not like that then maybe you can get the nib adjusted or changed to her liking.

The fine quality feel of a fountain pen feel will outstrip the desire to use another type of pen, no problem about that. The big question is does the pen yield that kind of feel. If not you can get it to work as I said above.

I find that the broader the nib the smoother the flow, and the more enjoyable the writing becomes.

However, this is something of personal preference.

If you purchased the pen from an authorized dealer, I think you have up to 60 days from the date of purchase to get a free nib exchange for a different size. So if the nib you have is too fine or too broad, you can get it exchanged.

You can also go to a Montblanc shop and they should have a full range of testing pens with nibs ranging from 'extra fine' to 'double broad oblique'. So you can find the size that suits you best.
