GMT or sub for small wrist?
Im starting to distrust my instincts.. The AD has a Sub date put aside for me...I have tryed it on a few times and really liked it. BUT I have read ALOT about the GMT II.
I was wondering what are the specs for the GMT II. Is it 40mm or 42mm? and what is the thickness of the case/watch? Would it look too bulky on my 6.25 wrist... The sub fits nicely. I do have many Breitling watches that are 42mm or bigger but they are totally different watches, and can't be used guides to judge the fit odf a Rolex. Does the GMT infact wear much bigger then the SUB? I have a DJ II that fits like a charm at 41mm, but im sure is a bit thinner then the GMT. Lastly, Since the sub may be getting an update, is it smart to pick one up now before they are not available in the old version? Im not really interested in waiting untill the new one comes out.. That may take a while and the funds will be already allocated by then... thanks, pete |

Hi, I assume you are referring to the GMTIIC? if so then in my opinion th gmt is just a tad more comfortable than the sub. Like you I have small wrists at about 6.25 to 6.5 and own both the GMTIIC and a sub LV. The GMT for me just sits perfectly on the wrist. The clasp is also much comfier as it sits directly under the wrist. The case is more chunky though. In terms of comfort between the SS sub and a SS GMTIIC the GMT wins....only by a very small margin.

To me, the GMT2c wears slightly bigger than the equivalently sized (on paper) Sub. The bezel makes the GMT a little more prominent.

Specs are one thing, but that is only on paper... Go back to the AD and try them both on. One will "speak" to you. Find the one you like, and is the most comfortable. Both are great watches.

I have both but I feel the GMT2c is a little more balance, centered but heavier in my wrist.

This is one of the toughest Rolex choices. I too had the issue of Sub or GMTII. I was a Sub guy all the way. A business partner gave me my first GMTII. I loved the watch and now am on my second GMTIIC. Love the watch, I love my Subs for different reasons. I would say buy the one which calls out to you the strongest and later on buy the other. Good luck.

I have also rather small wrists, and I both have the Sub 14060 and the GMTII Pepsi.
They both look just fine on a small wrist IMHO.. Good luck...

If the DJ2 fits you comfortable I doubt you'll have a problem with any of the two others .

I also have a small wrist: 61/4- 6/1/2. I find that the GMT IIC is the most comfortable watch that I own. I also looks good on the wrist. Since I don't have a Sub (yet) I can't compare. Go to an AD and try both.

My wrist is about 7 - 7.25 ". When I compare wrist shots of my Rolex to others, theirs seems large and mine seems small. Maybe I was used to wearing 44mm or larger watches? I like the smaller size but wish the sub and GMT were 42 MM. By the way, I have a classic sub and a GMTC and both are comfortable. I like the adjustment fold out 1/2 link on the new GMTllC which helps to make the watch more comfortable.
Enjoy whatever you decide to purchase!

Try on the new DJII and Yacht master Plat/SS before you decide, I have always leaned towards the Sub because i have no need for dual time zones, So the extra hand for me is just in the way

2 very different watches i have a very small wrist and always thought that the professional watches were to big but i love them better than all of my others now. read this though:::
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I tell ya guys, i love my TT gmt2c and i just got a SS sub (i cant remember the numbers but it) but its the most recent model before the change to "supercase". I have to say i REALLY didnt know how different these 2 watches are. (you guys said so! LOL) The sub is much lighter than the gmt2c, sometimes the sub feels more comfortable although it doesnt feel as "substantial". a lot less bling (good) not as thick, and the clasp is very tinny...kinda similar to my date and date just. The gmt2 feels more polished like a work of art and the sub feels like a workhorse. I absolutely LOVE each one for what it is and can now REALLY appreciate the difference for the different utilities. I was in atlanta waiting on a conference call from los angeles and trying to buy stocks in South Africa 3 wks ago and finally got a chance to "use" that gmt. it was pure pleasure to finally use the watch for the purpose that it was desigend for. Pure bliss! And the sub... i havent gone diving with it yet but i hit the mayan rivera in 2 weeks and i planned 2 days of diving but i can really see how this watch would be better in that salty stuff than my gmt. So if you want a good christmas present for yourself or someone else go to your AD and try on both of these watches and decide BEFORE you buy either one. Really examine what you want to use them for. Then come here and buy them so you can save a boatload of money. Merry Christmas!! |

Don't want to hijack this thread. But I would NEVER buy or trust him. I'm not posting about Hacko again. His info is correct, but he did ruin some of our privileges here b/c he abused them.
Regarding the OP (sorry for the mini hijack, I'll be good), you just need to try them on, but I have found in trying them on that the GMT IIc wears bigger than the Sub which wears bigger than the GMT II which wears bigger than the Expy II. I say wears bigger, but it is how it fits on the wrist, etc. These are all very common models, just go to an AD and try them on. You'll see what I mean. As long as the lugs aren't hanging over your wrist, you'll be fine. 6.5" wrist with a sub!
