Some things my AD said about the current Exp II and Sub nd

My wife and I went to a Rolex event at my local AD recently. While I was speaking to a salesman and a Rolex rep, I said that I'm thinking of trading my Sub nd for an Exp II since not having a date is driving me a little crazy.

They said that now is the time to get an Exp II, since it's current incarnation will disappear in a year or two and be replaced by a new version of the watch.

They also said the Sub nd will remain in its current form (COSC dial, 93150 bracelet, etc.) and not receive any updates.

Now, they could've been saying this to convince me to trade my nd for the Exp II. But I thought I'd pass the conversation along.

They are right, but I would buy (by next June)
the Sub date 116610 ceramic first
before I will worry about the explorer II.

My intuitive feeling is that the Explorer II price is probably at the bottom of the curve right now, especially the late production watches with the 3186 movement. I think the price will take a turn upwards just like the GMT II with a 3186 movement once the Explorer II is out of production.

If you like the explorer II go 4 it. Which dial do you like white or black?

I'd go for the black dial, like the Sub. Either way, I love how light the Exp II feels on my wrist.

I also like the black dial. For me I have to have a watch with a date function. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I think that your AD was just spouting the expected progression to the block cases and updated bracelets.... Most of the line has gone that way, so it can e reasoned that they will too..

But, it's not cast in stone.. the Daytona, Air-kings, and Explorers have all got updated bracelets the last couple of years and not gone to the block cases...
