Should you be able to hear the movement on a Panerai?

There was a Panerai being sold locally by a private seller on another forum and I went to look at it and I had a few questions. When I put the watch to my ear I could hear the movement make a clicking noise, is that normal? I am new to Panerais so I cannot spot a fake as good as others. The guy had all the boxes, papers etc.

I'm pretty sure mine is real and I can hear the seconds complication on my 111.

Ok that makes me feel better. Does it sound like a ticking noise? And i would say it is definitely in sync with the second hand. The second hand moves very smoothly as well. I asked him if he ever had it serviced and he said no. it is a 111E

Hard to know what you mean without being there with you, but I can hear all of the watches I own when I put them close to my ear whether they be Rolex, Panerai, Omega, etc.

What if you don't put it right next to your ear? I could hear it tick just holding it.

With both my LV and my PAM you have to put the watch next to or touching your ear before you can hear the very fast ticking (28,8000 bph or 4 Htz). If I am in a silent place then you can hear it from a couple of centimetres away, however, it does of course depend on your hearing!

Yeah total ticking noise, typically though I do need to hold it near my ear to hear it.

A PAM can and often will have the sound you speak of, as well as some sweet wobble.....

Buy with caution and knowledge.

Yes

Tic tic tic on all in-house as well as ETA based mvmt.
In-house should be softer.

I am unaware of ANY watch whose movement is inaudible when the watch is held up to the ear.

Well I cannot hear my Rolex when I have it up to my ear.

Oh that is my bad ear.

Can you post some pics, or a link to the pics?

Cheers
