Daytona Question
I'm new to the forum and have noticed that in most peoples pictures of their Daytona's, they have the chronograph function stopped.
Being used to the sweep second hand on my Submariner, I have synchronized, as best I can, my chrono second hand with that of the actual second hand on the subdial. Is this common? I can't imagine this being detrimental to the watch keeping accurate time, however, I've lately noticed it gaining about 5 seconds per day over the past 5 or 6 days. I think I will drop it off at the RSC when I get my submariner back from its service. Thanks in advance for any input. |

Yes it's normal (if a bit OCD) to try and synchronize the two seconds hands on the Daytona - I do it and I've read other forum members reporting doing the same!
I'm no watchmaking expert but I can't imagine how switching on the chrono could in any way affect the watch's accuracy. The only effect I know of is that it reduces the power reserve by a few hours but that really isn't an issue to be concerned about. By the way - welcome to TRF! |

On a slightly diffrent note when I spot a daytona on a wrist out 'in the wild' I usually check the the chrono hand as a 'give away' of a fake - I didn't realise people left it running as a second hand.

Can't see the point of running it either, it just kills the power reserve

No, it is not "normal" to do this.. A few people might...but normal...no way..
Why on earth would you want two seconds hands running at the same time.... Well, of course, it's your watch...so I suppose you won't get many folks telling you that your watch has stopped........

Well, it kinda defeats the purpose in a way.
And also, not to mention additional wear to parts on top of draining the Power Reserve. |

Thanks for all of the replies. I just reset the chronograph and have it stopped as the rationale for having it running as a second hand could be construed as specious.
