So did the OP not buy insurance beyond the $500 default to save some money? (based on the misinformation by the employee) When you use USPS, do you insure the packages at full value or was it basic coverage also?

Either way, its a valuable lesson for everyone sending high value goods through the mail. Good luck in recovering the watch or the money.
