Need Information on Deployment Screws
My Pan 88 has the deployment buckle and there is a tiny tiny screw which needs loosening when I change straps.
I lost the screw last weekend and it took me hours to find it on the floor with a magnet and lots of patience. Where do I buy 20 or more of these small flea size screws that hold the strap in place? If you lose the screw you cannot wear the watch with the deployment buckle. No Panerai dealers seem to have this tiny screw. They have to be less than $1.00 since they are so tiny. Thanks for your help D |

I'd try calling the boutique in Beverly Hills. I don't think you need 20 however. Maybe 1 or 2.
Also, I found it really helps to have a large clean work surface when doing any watch work. I have a large board that I stapled some rough felt to. Keeps those parts from flying all around. A tool that also helps pushing those screws out slowly is this... http://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Sizing-R...0&sr=8-2-fkmr1

Contact your local Panerai boutique, they should have some in stock.

The key to not losing the screw is never taking it out in the first place. It only needs to be loosened a turn or two and the pin will slide out.

i called my AD and he is ordering 2 screws for me. he said it is a PITA and he uses small tweezers to complete the change. i will be on my 3rd screw once I receive the 2 from him. kind of a weak link in the chain for my watch is useless now with the deployment mechanism. I need to buy some straps with the buckles. |

Loosen the screw a turn or two and see if the pin slides out. If it doesn't, loosen another 1/2 turn and try again. Continue in 1/4 - 1/2 turn increments until you learn how much it takes for the screw threads to clear the pin. That should prevent ever needing to replace the screw because it will stay in the threads enough to secure it.

my dealer also sells Ernest Benz and he said the Benz deployment has NO screw to deal with since its a better design.
I told him I had no interest in a Ernest Benz watch. I love the Panerai. I have fiddled with the band changes for a year. My wife has a 049 and does band changes frequently. The flea size screw really gives me problems. My eye sight is not good anymore and sometimes I cant get the tiny screw driver head into the screw head. Talk abt frustrating. Maybe I ll get the same magnification head set my eye doc has... lol Some screws are on the way and I ll just practice more. I am not going to buy deployment buckles for each band,, NO way. maybe the engineering will change in time so the not so fortunate (vision impaired) can change bands when necessary. |
