Purchasing a Rolex - SD or Sub SS?
Hey guys, I just purchased the GMTIIc. I love it! Now, I'm hooked with Rolex. Now, I want to unload my IWC Pilot Chrono & Tag 4000.
Which one should I go with? I know the new Sub SS will be introduced soon. Should I wait if I decide to go this route or go with the old style stainless bezel? I do like the SD as well. Appreciate your thoughts. |

Welcome to TRF! Sub and SD both are great watches. You've got great taste. You should get what you really want. Try them both and you'll know which one you like most. Or buy them all...

Whatever you fancy my friend. Personally-- I like the classic style of the good old Sub myself!

I got the SD and I love it! The choice is yours.

Well I will comment on your current options rather than say wait for the new sub to arrive.
I do have both an SD and a SS Sub Date. Does a Cyclops bother you? If no then get a Sub, I really do think overall the Sub is a slightly more versitle watch. Reasons being than the Sub is slightly thiner so I feel the Sub also wears a little better. Both are great watches but in terms of real world performance both do exactly the same job and neither will fail you. However the SD is becoming incresingly harder to get due to being discountinued so maybe that is a point worth considering. Another consideration being each watches history. |

Tough call when the gmt2 is better looking than both...why not go a different route, and choose something unlike these two. If you really want either, i'd stick with the classic sub fir.

I have both SD and Sub Date and both are great. Try them on and see which one you like better.

Thanks guys.
Clogger, the cyclops is not much of an issue for me. I figured throwing the SD out there since it didn't have one; I would have that variety factor in comparison to the gmtIIc. Briboxer, I've thought about exploring others, but I much prefer the professional lines; they've got the clean/simple look and both can be used every day. |

To add to my comment earlier, I've been dealing with a grey dealer out in CA. She has a few SD's left (new/old stock) ranging from '04's-present; which she's willing to unload for a great price. I haven't yet explored any old stocks of the Sub SS yet, but I'm sure she can find them from her network of dealers. I was a bit impatient, so I decided to drive down to DE to find an AD that had the gmtIIc, but killed me in the Breitling ColtII trade-in (45% of the value).

I went through the same SD vs Sub dilemma last year.
My suggestion is to try both on and decide. I was sure I wanted the SD until I tried on the Sub. It just felt better on my wrist. Feel is very subjective, so I can't tell you which would be better for you. |

SD...thicker case and bezel...some dont like it but I like the extra weight...not nearly as heavy as some of the newer divers being made which is a good thing

If you want something with a little more contrast from your GMT IIc go for the SD.
But the SUB is the most confortable watch I've ever worn.....fits nicely under a shirt.

No wrong answer here. It really depends on which you like the best. The SD will have the fewer numbers.
Any thought to the LV as it shares the maxi dial with your GMT? |

The grey dealer just contacted me - offering 2500 for the IWC & 250 for the Tag. Do you think that's a good # for the IWC? Keep in mind I don't have papers nor boxes for both.

I just bought a mint Sea Dweller, and I love it. I have a TT Sub which I also love. It's hard to say which I like better. My advice: buy either one now and the other later.
