A new play mate.
Darn that was a bad choice of words. (Settle JJ its only a watch)
I just got my latest toy,a T series GMT II.It has been used everyday and is showing a bit of age but the the whole over watch is sound. The bezel insert being the most notable but the are really easy to change. The main thing being its original and comlete with all the books, tags and boxes etc. In fact I will probably obtain a Pepsi insert and another black and red bezel insert to swap out when a change is desired. I have given it a real quick cleanup with a bit of a polish on the shiney surfaces and a rub with a 320 foam sanding pad to remove the bulk of the scratches. This was only a light cosmetic clean up as the big plan is to send it off to Rolex for a full service. The whole plan is to use it as my everyday work/beater watch as they are so tough and every five years or so send her in for a full facial and spa at Rolex. Meeting the family, Aaron |

Love your new playmate, Aaron. Wear it in good health....you will always enjoy this most practical Rolex.
And here's a couple of playmates that would go well with your new GMT-II. Cheers - JJ

Very nice acquisition, Aaron. It's a great looking watch, even if it isn't the all black.

I understand pal. I don't dive or own a yacht, but I have watches that would work if I did those things. Thankfully and to my surprise they work just to tell plain old time.

It looks pretty good Aaron and you seem to have done a decent restoration job already.

Well done AJC
Hey Aaron: At last U have the GMT II very nice indeed mate! You must really like the red GMT hands on both your 'Playmates' which you may have to implement with the seasonal time changes which are being touted around S.E. Qld!
Can u tell me what the wording "SWISS T < 25" below the 6 0 clock on your new watch the dial means? Something to do with the glass (oops) crystal? or the pressure? Some one told me that these so called divers watches are OK going in the water, but if they go up (altitude) they may go off bang because the watch is designed for pressure not vacuum. The GMT Master was designed for the fly boys not the frogs, so that T <25 may mean don't fly higher than 25,000 feet or 25 kilometers??? Wear the fox hat? Cheers TARDIS |

When I first got it I removed the bezel and the bracelet then gave the watch a real nice scrub and tub. Whilst the bracelet was off I used a dremmel to highly polish the bracelet(to remove the majority of the marks) and then refinished it with a 320 sanding sponge to get the brushed look back. The watch case I simply polished the sides where they are supposed to be polished and the face of the lugs I carefully brushed in the direction of travel.(Very lightly) The bigger marks can be handled by Rolex as all I wanted to do was make it a little more presentable. The T25 (Tritium) is referring to the lume material used on the markers. On the later models they used luminova. Both the GMT and Sub have the same case the major difference being the Subs Triplock crown. The crown being designed to withstand water pressure. As for the vacuum side of things I have no idea, but I think it would not do it as they have worn watches in outer space. Aaron |
