should you not be asking that question before you spend a lot of money? and if you're happy with it, then there's not much else you can ask for... besides, did you try on a ceramic sub? what did you think?

I think the watch that you purchased was the right choice. It will outlast you, and it will become a true classic in the coming years.
The updated sub will be: --Expensive (it will sell for more than retail for an indeterminate amount of time after it hits the market) --Hard to obtain for quite a long time. It will be in short supply --Expensive to have serviced if you damage the bezel/bezel insert Just my 2c

If the "new Sub" has the "supercase" like the new Gold and TT Subs, then I think you got yourself the right one. I've checked out the new ones several times at AD's and they do nothing for me (the bocky case, and the size of lugs compared to the bracelet create a somewhat less attractive Sub than the 16610). IMO, the 16610 you just bought is an all around better looking watch. Just my 2 cents. Enjoy your 16610, it is a true classic.

Don't look back.
Enjoy that bad boy to the fullest and watch others wait, wait, wait and pay for the new Sub. |

I think you made the right choice...I purchased one about 3 weeks ago because I wanted to get it before they made any changes. It is the classic Rolex, CONGRATS!

When I bought my new V series 16610 in December, I didn't even realize there was a new sub on the way (still a relative newbie to the high-end watch scene). Having taken a closer look at what everyone thinks the new sub will be based on updates to the t/t and the white gold models, I have no regrets, even if the clasp is considered "cheap" by some. This is the classic Rolex and will fit my thin wrist better. And the best part: you get to wear it now.

I love my 16610, and I'm guessing you do too!
If you decide that you like the new sub when it's launched, you have the benefit of waiting out the frenzy while wearing one of the best Rolexes made. |

Since I am quite the "newbie" to this area of watches, I feel in love with this watch the minute i put it on my wrist. The AD said there is a new Sub-date coming this year with a different "main spring" (I could be wrong about that) and these will be in short supply (16610) when it comes out,,,,,,SO, I pulled the trigger on the one I have. I was just curious although I did see a Blue Ceramic TT , it was sweet, but the Black Sub looked better on my wrist (My wife thought) and I thought it looked better on my credit card
By the way what does "WIS" mean? Thanks, Carl |

WIS = Watch Idiot Savant
(borrowed from TZ -- Posted in 6/98) --self trained to sleep in 5 positions with wearing his/her COSC certified chronometer in bed. --opens the back of a new Patek on the first day of acquisition and hand winds the rotor in tighten up the main spring. --takes the 200 meter water proof Seadweller off from the wrist and puts it into the deepest pocket before walking into a storm without any rain gear. --waits every 60 minute in front of a radio controlled clock all weekend in order to adjust all his/her 14 mechanical watches to the accuracy within -2/+2 seconds per 24 hours. --spends $500 plus on polish equipment and materials and works 20 hours in order to refinish a $200 worth SS bracelet. --has a annual budget of $500 on the purchase of a new watch and posts the question on the Timezone forum "which one is better? a Rolex or a TAG?" --wears a triple date chronograph with moon phase everyday, but cannot even tell time from the basic hour and minute hands on the dial without a pair of reading glasses. --memorizes all serial numbers of the Rolex watches made in the past 60 years but keeps forgetting the wedding anniversary. This last one makes me mad, because it hits too close to home --Has a watch collection that equals the cost of a new 911 but drives a GEO Metro

You can be 100% SURE you have purchased THE horogical legend!!!!
........regardless of what is around the corner. Never look back!!!! Maybe the update will be great....but i worry that Rolex may be walking down an embelishment path with the Sub,diminishing its Tool status.....its whole "raison d'etre!!!" I really hope i am wrong. |

Yeah buddy don't worry about the updated Sub, I bought a V serial SS Sub Date in Jan this year knowing full well a newer model was coming out. All that entered my mind was I liked the current Sub so who cares about the newer one.
In fact I was at a AD recently and the Sales women (who was very clued up) asked how old my sub was, I told her it was basically brand new, she thought I had made a wise choice in getting the classic. At the end of the day you have an awesome watch on your wrist and a true classic that will last you for years to come. Enjoy it |

I've been itching to flip my M serial sub to pick up a GMT II-C, but threads like this with people's support that the Sub is the right choice always makes me think twice.
