So, a man walks into an AD
And the AD tells him the following:
1. Rolex will not allow them to perform regulation and pressure testing. They have a Rolex trained watch tech, but if he opens the case he has to perform a full service. 2. 16610 is discontinued, and he has been TOLD by Rolex (assuming rep that visits the dealer) that the following things are certain: --New SS Sub to be released at Basel (not shocking) --Also that Explorer II is to be discontinued, and a new Explorer II will be released in March. Of course, he said he expected to see any new releases in the store by October. I expect that none of the above is absolutely true, and I expect that any claimed knowledge of releases at Basel is speculation. Thought I would pop it up here anyway. In the case: 16610; 16610LV; 116710; 2 x 16613--one blue and one black, as well as a 116613 blue; and an assortment of YMs, DJs, and a Prez. Fun day.

Yeah, Allan. Went in looking to get a pressure test and regulation for mine and the wife's. I don't know if their store policy is "full service only," or if he was just trying to upsell. I'm not paying $500 for a pressure test and regulation, though. I'd never been into that AD before.
I was also looking to try on an Explorer 114270, but he had none were in stock.

You were getting hosed - A pressure test does NOT require opening the case...unless the watch fails.
And even then, it does not require a full dismantle of the movement to replace a freaking gasket. Another AD trying to steal from the uninformed... I swear I'm going to wear a hidden camera every time I speak with an AD from now on.

Go in and tell them you want an appraisal for insurance reasons. They SHOULD open the caseback and have to reseal/pressure test to do it properly. No more than $50 I would guess.

My AD will do the testing for you.
On the other hand, they'll change al gaskets, front/back/crown, for 45 euro. A normal AD even advises you to check it every year, you can't relie on a 4,5 year old watch (prior to service) to be waterresistant. Regulation can be done together with the pressure test, saves work. The SS steel Sub is seen around here (Europe, Netherlands and Germany) with new serial numbers. Also the word is out that LV's were shipped from US AD's to European AD's because of drop in sales. I believe both will be discontinued soon but the rep is also guessing, I don't believe they know something before BASEL. AD my Jack |

I have heard this on more then one occasion. They are also suppose to follow the same pricing schedule for that service and parts.
