My modest attempt at watch photography
Took these pics this morning with my Canon 450D. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Great shots. Nice camerai.
What lens did you use? I would suggest a polarizer to get rid of the crystal reflections. |

I want you to know that my reaction to the first picture was just, "WOW" my wife said what are you looking at? I showed her and she did the same thing. Nice Photos! Well done!

Well Tony, they are nice watches but I won't pull your chain.
None of the dials are in crisp focus and it could be that your camera is locking the focus on the crystal and there is not enough depth of field to pull the dial into the shot. Try stopping down the lens to its minimum aperture and move outside into diffused natural daylight. Most digital cameras will take excellent macro shots in good natural light but you can always go manual and set it up on a tripod. I had a look at the specs of your camera - very impressive. Which lens are you using?

Thanks. Actually the straps on the 249 and 26K are from Peter Gunny. The 233 is on an Simona strap.

Thanks for all the comments. This was my first real attempt at watch photography and I'm just a beginner trying to learn all the basics. I am using a Canon XSi 450D with a Canon EFS 55-250mm zoom lens.

Very nice Tony, I love this photo in particular:
I'm also using the Rebel Xsi with the kit lens, in the future we should upgrade to macro lens. ![]() ![]() |

![]() Unilkely for autofocus to focus on the crystal. The shots were taken at max aperture so the problem is lack of depth of field on only a few of the shots. Most are excellent. You also dont want minimum aperture to get too much detail from the background too.the answer would be closer to max aperture.Hmmmmm,F5.6 may just have done it !! Excellent watch collection !! 249 always special. The Simona Vintage Tan looks great on the 233 and the light tan on the 26 is just amazing !! ![]() ![]() |

My pictures would never look that good! Those look good. You should try putting them on an old map, with some old aviator glasses. That would make a great poster.

Great shots!!!
My personal question. Between 26 and 249, which one your favorite? I'm planning to buy one of 'em. Thanks. |

Tony, great shots. PVD or ceramic waches are difficult to get right. As others say gettign the focus and depth of field right is the art particulary with macro shots where you have a very narrow DoF and you want to shoot from an angle to minimise any reflections! My shots are still a bit hit and miss from this perspective, however, I'm getting used to having to really think thro' the composition and plan the set up which means that it's a bit different to point and shoot.
Look forward to a few more shots.
