New Explorer II this month?

From all of the recent conversations with ADs it seems like most of you have heard that Rolex will introduce a redesigned Explorer I this month, but the Explorer II feedback has been mixed.

Any "inside" information out there??? I would like to purchase an Explorer II and prefer not to wait an entire year if the changes are not made until 2011. Also, what kind of price increases do you anticipate with the updated/redesigned models?

Thanks...and BTW, I think it's great that TRF has such a loyal Explorer II following!

I think the consensus is that it will get the clasp / case upgrade possibly?

hmm but then that would mean it has PCL's no? or is there a version of the new clasp that isn't polished.. I've never looked to be honest!

I would advise you not to muck around in anticipation. It's a superb watch and if you can grab one of the latest ones with the 3186 calibre (like I did), just go for it.

It's very comfortable to wear, light in weight (only 125 grams) and the accuracy of the new calibre is simply mind-boggling.

Good luck - JJ

When the Submariner gets upgraded this year, it will leave the Explorer II the only watch using the "old-style" horned squared lug Oyster case. Before the Sub., the GMT II and the Explorer II shared the same case. It will also be the only watch with round markers not using the newer larger maxi-dial markers. If Rolex does not upgrade the watch in 2010... it will do so in 2011. This would also leave the Explorer I and II still using the older clasp... No point keeping production lines running for just the Exp. I & II.

I guess they could keep it another year... it is priced really low these days, and maybe Rolex would like to keep it as a low cost option, especially since the new sub will probably cost a bit more.

I am not a fan of the Super Case and Maxi Dial. I think the current model Explorer II would be preferable to the upgraded one.

In 18 days we find out for sure.

You forget the 14060m I hope that the only upgrade it gets is solid end links.

The Explorer has a more modern clasp and bracelet and it's latest designation is 114270...... I do not think that it is in line for an upgrade.

The Exp II and the YM still use the stamped clasp, so both of these should at the very least get a new bracelet.. These two, along with the 16610, are also the only two full sized watches not yet given the latest 11xxxx designation.

(I'm not including the 14060M because I think that it will stay as a nostalgia piece)

I read in this forum that the 14060M uses a different case (39.5mm). I forget about the Yatchmaster... I forget Rolex makes those :P

Hey, don't tell JJ I said that.

If they re-invent it or upgrade it, maybe they should re-name it? Explorer III sounds nice.
