Bill, imo, i think every PAM owners must have at least one OEM croç strap. They are just so nice on the wrist, and the OP logo on the reverse side of the tail is pretty cool too.

Thanks Eric.

What do you think of the Croc on Deployant??? Most ADs seem to be out of the tang buckle variety...

HKTAN - Aaron Tan does not have a website to order his straps from. If you google HKTAN you should come up with some hits from other Panerai enthusiast sites. Or go search for him on those sites.

He could have a long lead time for his straps...

One OEM croc strap is a must....only way to wear a big PAM and get it to fit under a dress shirt.

Well, I am learning the hard way with the Heroics. I may need to breakdown and buy some OEM straps...preferably ones which will fit my deployant buckle.

The OEM rubber strap fits quite well. The buckle is centered on my wrist. The Heroic straps simply look to clunky. They are quite thick.

Someone said the OEM Panerai straps are thinner than aftermarkets...true, yes?

There are aftermarket straps that are just as thin as OEM Panerai straps. The only difference, from what I've seen, is alligator or croc straps that Panerai offers. The portion of the alligator or croc skin that is selected are perfect....from the pattern of the scales to the portion and the symmetry of the scale. Even more impressive is that the scales patterns goes from medium to small at the tail end of the strap so that it bends easily when you tuck it under the straps loops. If you decide to go OEM, go to an authorized dealer, once you know which one you want, asks them to bring out all of the available strap in that model so you can compare. Since every straps are unique when it comes to croc and alligator, it is best to select the strap with the best scale pattern.

Maybe I'm a little particular with this but hey....over $300 for a strap kinda justify the fun in inspecting for only the best.

I wholly agree.
OEMs have the nicest alligator patterns and texture. The scales are large towards the buckle and get smaller towards the buckle.
Its not too thick or too thin.
Even the scale distribution on the strap is beautiful. This is the part where it gets tricky with 3rd party vendors.

I highly recommend TedSu:

Sandave also makes some pretty great croc straps.

I like that one Obmto...but looks like the thickness issue may come into play again?

I notice he will make a deployant version though. Same price.

He does say custom orders can be done...wonder if that applies to making the strap thinner? I am going to ask.

Thanks again all! Love TRF

Bill... Cant tell you the thickness difference between OEM croc straps and aftermarket straps because i havent received them yet.
The aftermarket straps i ordered are 4mm thick and was told they are thicker than the OEM croc (115/75), thats why i have opted for 130/80 for them.

As for the deployment buckle, im not too sure if i like them on a PAM yet. I love how the Pre-V style Panerai buckles look on the straps, especially the polished ones, to match the plishes case on my 000.

I like the look of Simona's croc strap. http://www.simonastraps.com/index.asp?sezione=19 Check out this pic of the 233 on their chocolate brown croc strap. Looks like a million bucks IMO.

If you're own a budget you can buy gator EMBOSSED leather straps. They emboss the scaling look onto some other base leather. I don't own any like this so can't vouch for the longevity or feel - but on the website, they look like much like the real deal.

Thanks...

The more I look at Gators, even though they are outrageously priced...the OEMs seem to look / fit the watch the best.

Darn.

Bill, I can vouch for TedSu's croc. If you get the baby hornback, they are smaller scales and much more pliable I've found. They are SUPER comfortable.

For sure. I can vouch for the quality of the OEM gators. The selection of the scaling I think comes from the most choice cut/section of gator skin. You can really see it in the way the scale is aligned to blend into the entire length of the strap. I have the honey brown colored one.

For gator straps I would go for OEM... but for calf skin, then aftermarket.

I have both brown and black oem gator straps that get 90% of the wear on my 88. Panerai really does a wonderful job with these straps.

as a new pam owner thats been searching the internet high and low for straps the past week, i just decided to bite the bullet and get the jules verne strap, as it was in stock at the panerai boutique in los angeles. if any strap is worthy of a $320 price tag, its this one. photos of the strap do it no justice, it just looks perfect on my 176 and im sure every other model. i have previously ordered a few other straps online that im waiting on, and may be ordering one more, but the jv strap will be worn 90% of the time.

no aftermarket strap ive seen online compares to it.

Keep it CLEAN!!!!!! It is a great strap, but not for everyday use if you like that new look. If you wear it everyday, the oils, dirty, humidity, etc will give it a very nice darker patina.

Biz

what is the precise shade of brown on that last OEM Gator?

That's THE brown I am looking for. If I order online I want to ensure I get the right one.

Thanks!!!
