Know what I hate....

Selling 1995 Rolex <Insert Random Model> Retails For $8,995.00.....3rd Owner No Papers, No Box, 85% Condition....Selling For The Low Low Price of 8,500.00 WOW! Huge Sale!

Bump

Bump

Bump

or

eBay Note: The seller relisted this item

-----

Dont these sellers get it? just because this model retails right now brand new for 9K, doesnt mean a 15 year old production of it costs that much!

To make matters worse they laugh at you when you make them a "reasonable offer"

/end rant

Disclaimer: It doesnt happen on these forums, but on WUS, WN and Ebay is it pretty bad!

Recently overhauled at the Dallas servicenter with 1 year transferable warranty. box, papers, warranty card, anchor and hangtags. much sought after tritium dial and hands and lug holes. usa customers only. original owner. $4500.00 + bank wire transfer + $15. or paypal + 3%. $50.00 registered mail postage. if photos wanted i need to send to your cell phone number as my computer operating system is not functioning for my regular camera to upload photos.

Yes, I do feel it's somewhat unethical for sellers to use the MSRP reference of a brand new model when selling a 5 - 10 - 20 yr. old watch which obviously had an original MSRP of far less and sometimes a fraction of the MSRP of a 2010 model, but it seems like near everyone does it these days so I just overlook it.

It may be 16 years old, but what is key is that the "watch was overhauled" by RSC - Dallas. I would want to see a receipt for the service-work performed, but the watch could easily have a new bracelet, new bezel insert, and might be "like new". RSC will replace any worn parts in the movement, and the watch most likely is running like new.

This might have been a $1,000 overhaul. I would rather buy a watch like this than a 12 year-old watch that has not been serviced for $3,800.

JMHO.

I took that listing from Timezone and Timezone's rating scale lists Like New In Box (LNIB) as " pre-owned watch that has been worn, yet is in perfect condition. Accompanied by the factory box(es), tags and documentation. No alterations from factory-delivered condition. The warranty papers must be stamped to establish the authenticity and validity of the watch - TimeZone does not allow sales of watches with "open papers." No bracelet resizing or marks of any kind. 100%"

A new bracelet is an "alteration"

For his 16 year old watch to be LNIB he would have had to buy it and place it in a safe & not touch it for 16 years

Sellers will resort to all sorts of sales tactics - many unethical - to make money. One of the best pieces of advice I've read on TRF is that if you're buying second hand, then always buy the seller.

If the seller has no/low feedback, or if the % of positive comments is low, I would look elsewhere.

I think the problem is people have different definitions for BNIG, LNIB, etc. A 16 year old watch cannot be in any way BNIB. A recent service can make it in as new condition, but most have a higher standard for BNIB/ LNIB.

Having said that, your example of a B&P S series SD is tempting, if the tritium hands and indices were not replaced at service.
