Steel should not have a hallmark and this is supposed to be Swiss made so it can not be a Rolex contracted for part.

Does the G F with the springbok mean gold filled? Where is the gold?

100% genuine band Safe. They made bands for Rolex, just like C&I made bands in the USA for Rolex.

By the way, I wear the C&I version of that band on my daily, a 1981 GMT. It is light weight and very, very comfortable band. The original band - I keep in the box with the booklets and papers.

No I am looking for fakes in all the wrong places of Ebay!

One way to become more of a Rolex fake spotter is to work on the watch out forum and get some feedback, I do not mind being wrong when I am learning from it.

So Rolex had bands made by Gay Frères SA in Switzerland. WHY? They saved no money on import duty. BTW they now own that company but not at the time of the manufacture of the bracelet in question. Now Rolex has its own foundry in house to insure quality. Can I assume the quality of these bastard parts is not what Rolex now claims can only be achieved by in house production?

Sub-contractors. Many of the parts are subbed out. Very common in the business world. And, if they do a quality job, like GF did on these bands, and my memory serves correctly, you end up being bought-out by the big fish - or Rolex in this particular instance. Yes sir, I do believe Rolex purchased GF.

Also, there are import quotas and restrictions in many countries that affect the finished product.

This band was made in Switzerland so duty was not a factor. As for quality Rolex should have their watches made by Swatch. Oh never mind they do.

It wasn't only marketed or sold with Rolexes in Switzerland, but other European countries and elsewhere. I know many countries have the same import restrictions on goods manufactured outside of the country as we do.

But being made in Switzerland it would have the same liabilities as a Rolex band made in Switzerland. Rolex was one big Tudor at one time I can see. It is only recently that they use "In House" as a selling point.

I would love to take an example of every part Rolex contracted out to Rolex USA along with fakes and see how many they get correct.

...is to speak with an OLDER person that is/was familiar with the earlier production of such bands.

...ain't many of them around anymore.
