Larry, I've noticed this myself on many occasions and am SO GLAD that you've brought it to everyone's attention formally. We're a tight-knit group here and need to make it known that certain behaviors just won't be tolerated. Well done!

There is also a need to protect new or less knowledgable members against other members stating incorrect details, in fact often utter nonsense as absolute fact. It happens on this forum more than any other i've used. There are a few very knowledable people on here but they are greatly our numbered by people with a lack of knowledge but an over-flowing of opinion.

True, however, that is the nature to some degree of a forum. This is why I wish the edit feature would remain in place longer or the option to delete one's own post be provided.

I believe this thread was about watching out for members who's motives may not be what they seem. Yes, I did make a reference to people who give gifts in an attempt to build trust... I also mentioned folks who are trying to build post counts (quickly) so they can sell things and have the appearance of being a contributing member...something else to watch for.
I know you were just trying to make people aware of the potential pit falls and there are many that's for sure. My best advice is trust everyone but with a healthy dose of skepticism until personally shown otherwise. In other words be on guard but remain receptive and do your due diligence before and after a transaction.

FWIW the guy I sent my "gift" to would only give me one name even though he contacted me ,it cost him nothing and I have his address and I paid to mail it .That's a receptive attitude coupled with a healthy dose of skepticism for sure.

Agreed. I think the OCCASIONAL 'nice watch' or 'congrats' comments are fine...but....there are those that just post whatever to get their post count up- I've seen some members build up over 3,000+ in under 3 months...

Well .................. Some may be retired, semi-retired or as I am, on medical leave because of knee surgery. Dr. is just now finally letting me maneuver around the house w/o the freak'n walker. I still have a min of 4 weeks, 3 times a week of phys therapy before I am released to go back to work.

Mike- I get all that, believe me- I've had foot/ankle surgery and recovery is no fun...Hope you're feling ok-
I was agreeing with Bill (Speed) that there are people who will post one word 'comments' and hand out gifts in the appearance of being 'comitted to the forum' etc...
On my days off, I actually spend a LOT of time on TRF...but only comment when I feel like I've got something useful to add.

I am on a non-Rolex forum where that function is active and it works great.

Can I suggest a new emoticon that is a big yellow flag with the word "FLAG" on it, so other members new and old know that the OP's post is suspicious.

regard selling: Buyer beware is what I go by. When I see an unfamiliar seller list an item, I read ALL their posts. If they post dumb useless stuff--- I ignore their listing/post. If they seem to be a sincere person I go to the next step to at least ask several questions, if they never answer them, I think that speaks volumes.

One more thought/suggestion:
make a new member with less than 5 posts, need to get it reviewed by a mod prior to it posting up on the site. (help filter out grand dad's watch posts) Maybe make a special section for those posts so they never land in the general section. Call it noob section.

very surprised that these posts were for potential future sales.. thought it was more for getting information on the watch/models and what they were worth.

when i purchased the GMT II from another member here, i searched all his posts, replies, and then met him in person (since he was local). Even stopped by the AD that he purchased from and they verified they were familiar with him and multiple purchases at the store.
