Found Parker #45

I was going through a small box of my father's writing instruments and found a parker #45. I do not know much about it but it has a steel cap, arrow pocket clip and an acrylic(or is it plastic)body. The nib is marked with a "M"(medium nib?)and was made in England. It looks to have an empty cartridge inside and do not know if it will take a converter. Found a web site that describes the different #45s and the years they were made and I think it was made between 1960 and 1962??? Will have to take it to the show at thr end of the month and have it checked out!!!

Great find Leo!

Chances are that if it still had the cartridge in it will need flushing.
I did this with a friends pen a few weeks ago. I normally put the section with the nib in a bowl of water and leave it for a day. That usually gets everything nice and loosend up and then I just flush it through a running tap.

I think I am right in thinking the 45 was both cartridge and converter fill so you should be able to find a converter at any store that sells parkers!

It is similar to my 51 and knowing Parker the nib will be smooth as butter!

Let's see some photo's when you get a chance!

John, Dave and Ian, thanx I'm kind of excited about the find and will take your advice Ian and soak it in water. The other pen I got from my Mom was my Dad's all stainless steel rollerball. There is a store(Paradise Pens) about 35 miles away and they carry Parker pens so I will see if they carry the converter.....

I'd say try another make's convertor and see if you can flush it first.
Important thing is to make it clean, then fill it with cartridge or convertor what not, no worries.

The Parker 45 came out in 1960 and it was discontinued on a very very few years ago. It was a popular, cheaper pen which came with a variety of interchangable nibs.

I have a Parker '45' with a semiflex medium nib.

Leo, how did the soak go? Was there a lot of ink in the feed?

Ian, there was dried ink in the feeder and I believe I have got it cleaned out. But now I need to find a converter or cartridges for it as there is no one close who carries them. I thought I would wait till the end of the month and the Pen Show or go online and order them!!!

Great Leo. I am glad it worked! Hope you find the cartridges or converter soon so you can give it a go!
Here is a thought, you could try filling your the cart that was in it if you have the type of syringe that you fill printer cartridges with!
