Shipments (packages or freight) containing all or part of the following items are limited to a maximum declared value of US$1,000: #7 Jewelry, including, but not limited to, costume jewelry, watches and their parts, mount gems or stones (precious or semiprecious), industrial diamonds, and jewelry made of precious metal. Looks like they've got a cap now of $1k, the problem would still remain that if you go and declare a higher value, in most cases, they'll still take your money and only in the event something happens, would they use the "clause" re: limits and refund the extra you've paid for the higher value declaration capping it at the $1k they've got. So if nothing goes wrong, they take your money for the higher declared value and if something does, then you get the extra services fees/declared value "insurance" purchase monies back and $1k from the cap. At least they've increased it to $1k... Taken from their Terms of Service FAQ found at: http://www.fedex.com/us/services/terms/ My watchmaker carries separate insurance that specifically covers the jewelry and watches he ships. They're strick about how he's got to send it (I believe he uses UPS, but the insurance is still from a 3rd party), but at least he's covered. I'm sure the seller's here do something similar and via UPS, I know that the High Value items are handled differently than regular packages, throughout the shipping process via UPS, so that it's better monitored the whole way. |

I believe most jewelry dealers have independent ( 3rd party ) at full value insurance linked to the UPS/FEDEX/USPS/ DHL type couriers . Those couriers have top rating with insurance companies .
